I feel the same way. Oil change, tire rotation, they inspect the tread of the tires, inspect the brakes, do a 27 point inspection like cabin filter and junk line that. They fill all the fluids if any are low even the washer fluid. They used to wash the car and vacuum it but they don't do that any longer. I just figure it's easier to bring it in and let someone else do it. Plus I figure if they do it and screw something up then they can pay for it to fix it. I do and screw it up I'm screwed.
If only my dealer is this efficient. I spent 4 hours there for the first two free changes and I have to drive for 15 mins to get there. For me; changing my oil actually saves time. I can finish and rotate tire under 40 mins. Maybe when they can do the pick up and drop off for oil change, I’ll consider for them to do it

A full service with Motorcraft Full Synthetic oil is $79 at my Ford dealer.
It will most likely happen two or three times a year. My fifth service is free.
So, that works out to $63 each time.
It takes less than an hour. I walk around the lot and look at window stickers. It drives the salespeople crazy. :)
Or I’ll get a cup of free coffee.
No mess,
Hands stay clean,
No oil to dispose of.
They rotate the tires and check all kinds of things and fluids.

I used to change my oil but not anymore. I consider it a convenience fee.
Worth every penny.
Just sayin.

Oh I should say this,
After you go out and buy the five or six quarts of full syn, or a jug, and a filter.
Your saving what,,, $15 or $20
So you can crawl under your car and all that. Then taking the used oil to a mechanic’s shop to dump it. That can be a PIA
No thanks, my time is worth far more than the $20
And the time and fuel to go get the stuff,
And the time and the fuel to get rid of the old oil.

Come to think of it you save exactly nothing.

I bought one of these oil filter wrenches and really like it. Beats the heck out of strap wrenches in those situations where you have more space on the end of the filter than the sides.

Don't worry about deforming the old filter; you are putting on a new one anyway. Works amazingly on tight filters.
Scooter, I tried a pair of pliers like those and managed to tear a hole in the side of the filter and create a dent in a place that made everything more frustrating. They would work great beyond that first change though. I've used them in the past. For real issues, I'll stick to my initial recommendation of that three toothed bite down monster I ended up using.

That's the same basic design as the one I recommended at the beginning of this post. Your picture is nice. The filter is either coming off or it'll rip in half. I ended with the former and can't imagine the latter except in bad dreams.

I own one of these and I've essentially never use it. in a lot of cars there isn't really space to get it on the filter properly.

I use one with a long extension on my ratchet.

Changed my oil today and I wasn't sure I would ever get the filter off. The body of the filter deformed in the process. Ridiculous!
I think it must be part of the "Built Ford Tough" tradition. I still remember my F150. I could not remove the factory oil filter with one of those swivel oil wrenches (big metal ring wrench). There was only enough swing room to tighten up the swivel and the filter would not budge. So I tried hammering a screw driver through it to get extra leverage, and the oil filter started to rip apart but would not move. I could not remove it until I purchased a jumbo sized pair of channel lock pliers.

Kings Ford - Cincinnati got me $124.99 for simple oil change. Not even tire rotation since it was only 4000 miles in and they said they'd do it next time. Has me thinking one of those Valvoline instant places next time, esp since it took 90 min to do it ....
The exact reason we dont take my wife's Explorer to the stealership anymore. It took near 3hrs to do an oil change last time. Took it in for the rear axle bolt recall last week, she had an 8:30 appt. She called to see if it was gonna be done at 4pm. They hadnt even started on it yet and they said they didnt even know if they would get to it the next day. She drives a lot for work and cant have a vehicle down for an undetermined amount of time. The service departments have become useless. Called the dealer where I bought my Maverick and they said they schedule it for 2 days and they would come pick it up and deliver it when it was done and they wouldnt come pick it up til they had all the parts and tech to do the job.

My 1st oil change was at 2244 miles.. a few months ago.. I went to Wal*marts..
With the caveat..
They have a manager who is hands on. I demanded he do it as the Truck was new.
I also demanded Mobile one off the shelf, not out of a drum in the oil change bay where they fill from a hose and not their oil filter but.. off the shelf Mobile 1 filter and Mobile 1 oil..

I know about the welds needing to be broken on the filter..I went weekday early morning to talk to the manager who told me it was the 1st maverick hybrid in the shop, so he would personally do it. not one of the minions.
He boasted he's been working as a certified mechanic 25 years and he was about 50.. So I approved. I also watched through the glass window..

They checked all fluids, even Blinker fluid (It's a joke son) added Windshield washer fluid.. and gave me all 5 tire pressures.. the Maverick only gives you 4 if you can find the hidden read out.

The total came to $73, something.. with 8% tax..of which about 1/2 was oil and filter.. This is the 1st time I have not changed my oil in 50+ years.. I'm 75 and I opted not to have to pull a belly pan and break welds on a filter laying in a gravel barn yard at 18 degrees..

PLEASE don't tell any of the Marines at the local VFW.. They'll call me "sissy" and beat me up..
But knowing my oil filter was "lubed" prior to install and I have good synthetic in it, with 40 years of exclusive Mobil ONE use in all my cars and trucks, I'm happy.

My oil change person met my criteria.. These oil change places run by 20 year olds, I will never trust, (use recycled oil) and hate to say it, the Ford dealers here are not going to put their top man on it, but the newly promoted floor sweeper.. so hence I used the only qualified Wal*mart man in 4 states, maybe more.

Is this meant to be a snarky reply? Lots of these non-helpful responses in this wonderful forum, but I will try to answer your question

The factory oil filter was right-hand threaded correctly. But it was tightened well beyond proper specifications. Requiring too much force to remove. I drove this vehicle for well over a decade and I never again had an issue removing the oil filter, as none of them were installed over tightened. ONLY THE ORIGINAL FACTORY OIL FILTER WAS TORQUED OUT OF SPEC. I apologize for using all caps, but there seems to be a communication issue which might be corrected by shouting.

I've heard about some folks with trouble removing the original filter. Fortunately mine wasn't one of those, although I used a "socket" type of tool as it was a little snug. The belly pan was the biggest pain....

I also found the factory installed oil filter very tight. I was lucky the strap wrench was the third one I tried and it worked; a matter of leverage and grip.
Thanks for warning us new owners, so we can get out there, loosen it, and put some oil on that gasket.
