It seems from what I've read here, that the windshields for the XL/XLT are different than the Lariat acoustic ones. If they are, once mine gets cracked, can I replace it with the stronger/quieter one? I wonder what the price difference is.

interesting question, I wonder if there is anything that would prevent it.

The acoustic windshields are three layer, thin glass-acoustic material-thin glass. Mine got cracked twice in two years in my Bronco Sport. I wouldn't be so quick to change to them thinking they're stronger.

I caught a rock and cracked the standard windshield on my '22 XLT. I had Safelite replace it with the acoustic windshield. It is definitely quieter than the standard one but I caught an even smaller rock that cracked the new acoustic one too. I only had to pay my $100 insurance deductible, so not sure if the acoustic cost more.

Both types of windshields are as weak as sugar glass.

I went thru some rain with big drops and thought my windshield was going to shatter. I'm very leery about spring hail storms now.

The actual difference in price between the 2 part numbers is very small (like $20-30 IIRC). It will just be a matter of how easy your insurance and shop are to deal with. I tried to replace my cracked XLT with the Acoustic model last year and it was such a hassle with the part numbers, VIN specific replacement etc, that I just gave up. But have seen plenty of other people do it with little to no issue.

I caught another rock in mine like 2 weeks after I replaced it and another like 2-3 weeks ago. Seems like the more upright positioning makes them more prone to damage.

yes, lots of gravel on the roads here, not to mention, regular pea-sized+ hail storms😉
