To risk being Captain Obvious the II, have you tried different driving modes? I have a Nissan that is sluggish and feels underpowered in ECO mode. Put it in Normal, it peps up. Put it in Sport and off we go! Maybe a stupid suggestion you've already tried, but I didn't see it mentioned. Oh, and I don't think there's a "grind gears" or "not grinding gears" mode. [Now he's being Captain Sarcastic.] The grinding, to me, is a super scary problem, one that may be able to be replicated more readily than the power issue.
I’ve played with all of them. None are ideal. Sport is a little ridiculous with twice the RPM and I dont know what they were trying to do with the engine braking. I hit 2200 rpm or so going straight, let off going down a little hill and see 3500!
but I don’t think I should have to fish through different modes to make this thing shift to a adequate gear. It should just go.

have the dealer reset the transmission keep alive memory, and then drive it like you intend to so it learns your driving style.
I have to drive it according to all these rules they have, lile speed limits and all that. Lol. We’ve got some of the dumbest speed limits in the country. Like 40mph for miles in the woods with no houses. And cops enforce it.

I received my 2022 eco XL with AWD and tow package in April of 2022. I loved it at first, till about 8k miles, and then it just sort of lost a lot of its power. It laboriously shifts through way too many gears and just acts like your average four cylinder economy vehicle. Biggest problem is that the trans will shift to too high of a gear and then go into lockup at way too low of a speed. So, below 50mph, it’ll drop to about 1100 rpm and then start going into a shutter felt through the entire truck until you find a way in traffic to give it gas enough to brake out of it. Also, it grinds when it shifts. You can feel it through the floor, the steering wheel. Last but not least, there’s now an intermittent “hot brake” smell inside the truck. I went around to each wheel, it’s not the brakes
I’ve been to the dealership that I bought it from twice and then I bought it to another dealership once. They tell me nothings wrong, but then it turns into that they “could not replicate the customer’s complaint”. Think that means they took it for a ride and they didn’t feel it and parked it. They will all tell you that fords eight and ten speeds suck and there’s nothing you can do.
So, any help would be great, this is all based on driving it in normal mode. Anything else is a crutch in my opinion. The trucks brand new and shouldn’t shutter or grind or smell like it’s burning in any mode.
Hi Jason! I can look into your Maverick's concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Maverick's VIN?

Thank you @Ford Motor Company, not just on JasonT's behalf but on behalf of all of us. This kind of problem makes us all worry (at least us EBers with 8 speeds).

@JasonT, please keep us updated!

2022 EB, delivered 10/15/22
02/24/22 - Transmission Failure with 20k miles on odo
Clunk when placed in gear {D or R}. In D would not move when throttle first pressed, then lurched forward for a short distance, paused as if stalled, then would seem to reengage and continue on, shuffling occasionally.

Very hazardous to drive this way, had to park it and call a tow truck.
Been three days, and still haven't heard from the service department.

These transmission issues are not making me confident in my purchase. Valve body problems when new seem to be common but 20k miles later could mean a design problem.

Not real happy either! And still not word from the dealer.

But……not giving me a warm & fuzzy feeling about taking any long trips❗

It's a GM-designed transmission in a Ford.

What could go wrong?! 😄

Conflating anecdotal forum posts of prolems that have yet to be properly diagnosed is no cause for concern. This transmission has been used in multiple models for the last few years and is itself just the next iteration of refinement of previous designs. It is the result of collaboration between Ford and GM to produce a reliable and efficient transmission. Even if there were hundreds of posts complaining about transmission problems (which there are not), it would still not be cause for concern statistically.
