I received my 2022 eco XL with AWD and tow package in April of 2022. I loved it at first, till about 8k miles, and then it just sort of lost a lot of its power. It laboriously shifts through way too many gears and just acts like your average four cylinder economy vehicle. Biggest problem is that the trans will shift to too high of a gear and then go into lockup at way too low of a speed. So, below 50mph, it’ll drop to about 1100 rpm and then start going into a shutter felt through the entire truck until you find a way in traffic to give it gas enough to brake out of it. Also, it grinds when it shifts. You can feel it through the floor, the steering wheel. Last but not least, there’s now an intermittent “hot brake” smell inside the truck. I went around to each wheel, it’s not the brakes
I’ve been to the dealership that I bought it from twice and then I bought it to another dealership once. They tell me nothings wrong, but then it turns into that they “could not replicate the customer’s complaint”. Think that means they took it for a ride and they didn’t feel it and parked it. They will all tell you that fords eight and ten speeds suck and there’s nothing you can do.
So, any help would be great, this is all based on driving it in normal mode. Anything else is a crutch in my opinion. The trucks brand new and shouldn’t shutter or grind or smell like it’s burning in any mode.

I really wish we could buy a manual transmission but for the automatic, I wish there was a 6 or 7 speed option because the 8 is a bad idea. Toyota and others have a 10 speed i believe which will probably be more problematic

I agree, there seems to be a problem. With this kind of performance there should be a CEL or error codes. Could it be a boost issue considering the loss of power? Grinding when shifting sure is concerning and sounds like a trans problem. Good luck, I am sure once the issue is identified it will be resolved under warranty.

I don’t have any codes. Mine was fast when I got it. It would easily chirp the tires. If you took off from a stop sign, you had to go easy or everyone would get jerked around inside the truck. Now, it’s slow. And I took another new maverick for a test ride to compare and it was slow too! So, I’m not sure if the turbo waste gate was stuck closed or what, but it’s not anymore.

My FWD XL has plenty enough power to spin the tires on dry road and is borderline dangerous on wet roads. It will spin on wet roads while passing. Something has to be wrong. What has you fuel mileage been lately?

Ok, maybe I’ll give that a try. You asked about fuel mileage. Mine will go up to some amount and stay there until I reset it. So, it was at 26.5 mpg, it stayed there for over a month. Never changed. I reset it and now I’ve got 22. I understand it’s the average, but at some point it stops. So, I guess I get 22. Until I use the math method anyway.

have the dealer reset the transmission keep alive memory, and then drive it like you intend to so it learns your driving style.

This worked for me. Dealer did it no charge.

You know it has a warranty.....
Captain Obvious, They do??? Of course it is under warranty but the dealer has to diagnose the problem first. If you read the original post it was at the dealer who sold it twice and once to another dealer, if I am not mistaken. Anyways, thanks for your poignant information.

To risk being Captain Obvious the II, have you tried different driving modes? I have a Nissan that is sluggish and feels underpowered in ECO mode. Put it in Normal, it peps up. Put it in Sport and off we go! Maybe a stupid suggestion you've already tried, but I didn't see it mentioned. Oh, and I don't think there's a "grind gears" or "not grinding gears" mode. [Now he's being Captain Sarcastic.] The grinding, to me, is a super scary problem, one that may be able to be replicated more readily than the power issue.

6 speed gets poor highway mpg. They keep adding gears to make it a lot more fuel efficient.

I can only drive one way. Speed limits are real slow around here, you just get stuck behind another car. And then starts the lugging and constant shifting.
