A few weeks ago I was waiting at an intersection when my radio (which was on) suddenly blared very loudly! I quickly turned it off and the sound stopped. About a week later I was driving with my wife and the radio off when it turned itself on and again blared very loudly. Last week I had the Mav in for the most recent 3 software updates and mentioned the problem to the service writer, of course she had never heard of the problem but we hoped the updates would resolve the issue.

Today I was sitting in the Mav in the garage waiting for my wife to get in. We were loading it up for another trip to our new apartment and had opened and closed all of the doors and the tailgate. Of course the Mav popped and clicked many times during this period. With me in the drivers seat, all doors closed, the key in the ignition but not turned (the truck was off), the radio turned itself on and blared yet again. i quickly turned it off to save my hearing!

Has anyone else had this issue? It happens at random time and in different situations so I'm sure the dealer won't be able to observe the problem.
What is the best course of action here?

Not sure if this is the same problem, but... I've noticed when using android auto I have to turn the volume up so I can hear better, then when not using android auto and just connecting wirelessly to my phone it is way too loud and I have to turn it down. Next time with AA it'll be very soft and I'll have to turn it up again.

I'm beginning to think that Ford's original name for the Maverick was the Gremlin. But this didn't go over too well with Ford's Focus Groups.

Haven't experienced this. For me, I keep getting the Collision Warning Detection light blinking and hollering at me. I'm 100% convinced that the detection device is seeing shadows, because every time it's happened no one else is around me.

No, it was just the station the radio was tuned to but at maximum loudness. The speakers were even crackling from the volume.

In answer to the other poster, I didn't have my Android phone connected via the USB cable at any of the times this happened. However, it does connect via Bluetooth for the phone and text features. The last time this happened, the key was inserted but the truck was not turned on.

It happened again a few minutes ago. Cruising along a city street at about 35MPH and the radio (which was off) suddenly came on a maximum volume on the station I had listened to yesterday.
It is really shocking to have this happen with no warning. I guess I'll stop by and describe it to the service writer again to see if they have any ideas.

I've had a it happen a few times, with the radio on, and yeah it's very jarring when it happens. When the radio is on it is usually proceeded by a little popping noise, like there is a possible issue with capacitors in the infotainment unit.

I don't think I've had the popping sound before the full-volume blast but I did notice something when it happened again yesterday - I have to press the radio on/off button twice to turn it off to quiet the blast. I wonder if the radio even "knows" it is on?

Have you updated the radio firmware to the latest version?

I have the latest radio firmware installed and no longer have the issue you experienced.

The update must be done by you over WiFi.

The Ford Recall Updates do not update the radio firmware.

Search the forum for instructions on doing the update.

That is a very good point! However, I just forced the radio to search for updates and it didn't find any. I must assume it is at the latest version already. Thanks for the suggestion though.
