When I picked up my Lariat, the finance manager used $2,750 as the replacement cost of the headlight assembly as the reason to purchase the extended warranty. You can no longer just replace a bulb but must replace the whole assembly if a lamp goes out! Prime example of over engineering. \\

Still did not purchase the additional warranty but now am thinking about it - thoughts?

A lying salesman? Say it isn't so!

The MSRP on a new unit for each side is $1300-1600. The chances of them going out from failure is virtually nil.

First, if the headlight assemblies died during the warranty, Ford would replace them. Note that this does not apply to halogen bulbs, but since the LEDs are not replaceable bulbs, they would probably be covered as defective.

Second, if you really do want the peace of mind from an extended warranty, there are other dealers that sell it for cost or just over cost. For example, google "Flood Ford ESP" and check their cost.

You don't have to buy it from your dealer at whatever their mark up is. It's the same Ford-backed ESP, unless it's a dealership-specific plan.

Maybe that’s what other headlights cost? I declined the warranty packages and the salesman tried real hard to sell me on one of their three packages; $2500, $5000, and the top $7500 one. He explained that the whole truck is a computer and I can’t fix or work on anything. It was basically scripted and they were trying to make money on an MSRP deal where they only made the dealer doc fee of $400.

I told him I knew I can do brakes, plugs, tires, oil, coolant and all basics myself after the warranty expired. 3yr/36k and the hybrid component 8yr/80k is plenty for me.

There will be an assortment of aftermarket headlamp assemblies in the next 3 years. Prolly still pricey but much less than OEM. Some will actually be better, some worse. I'm not worried.

Mint condition used replacements can be found on eBay for $400-$500 bucks.

My understanding from reading the manual is that the standard factory warranty does not cover the headlights, if they burn out. The units are considered a consumable item.

I know they sell LED light kits for other cars. Those after market kits have a LED bulb. So the Mav doesn't have a LED bulb ? Is it like s strip of LED's inside the headlight assembly? You guys sure?

All the LEDs are, both DTRL, and high/low beam are part of assmblies, they are not replaceable blubs like most older vehicles. Why? The strips I understand, custom shape. The high and low beam, no idea.

Well that sucks I would rather have a bulb. My 2020 Ford Ecosport has bulbs as I upgraded mine to better ones.

Looks like the LEDs are just bulbs using reflectors to me. I think they might easily be replaced, but you’d have to verify.
