Will rig up a cheap bulb for daytime test and trade the POS in at 12 noon before I pay 2300 for a burned out LED assembly.

lakeland ford parts lists the headlamp assembly for $860.

I just got an aftermarket headlamp assembly for my old explorer for under $60.

When I picked up my Lariat, the finance manager used $2,750 as the replacement cost of the headlight assembly as the reason to purchase the extended warranty. You can no longer just replace a bulb but must replace the whole assembly if a lamp goes out! Prime example of over engineering. \\

Still did not purchase the additional warranty but now am thinking about it - thoughts?
Sounds like an item to hack? But, I haven't seen it.

Maybe that’s what other headlights cost? I declined the warranty packages and the salesman tried real hard to sell me on one of their three packages; $2500, $5000, and the top $7500 one. He explained that the whole truck is a computer and I can’t fix or work on anything. It was basically scripted and they were trying to make money on an MSRP deal where they only made the dealer doc fee of $400.

I told him I knew I can do brakes, plugs, tires, oil, coolant and all basics myself after the warranty expired. 3yr/36k and the hybrid component 8yr/80k is plenty for me.
As someone said on this forum... Tell them "It's built Ford tough." That should shut them up.

Most aftermarket lights pale in performance and quality compared to OEM and if they are the same or better quality they cost just as much. Doesn't apply for olde4 models but in most things built in the last 5-7 years it's more common than not.

The LEDs are not replaceable. Not for high or low (or Lariat DRL). This is the case for ALL factory LED equipped vehicles. If something burns out, the entire assembly must be replaced.

The failure rate % should be extremely small.

They are also not “consumables” like halogen headlights were. They are meant to last the lifetime of the vehicle and will be covered under factory warranty if they fail early.

Pretty sure lakeland is selling OEM and there are no aftermarket assemblies for the mav yet.

Right I'm just saying when after market starts making something. Preferable the retrofit company's have something planned as well but since its a pretty new design it may take a bit for people to find or make viable alternatives.

At the prices ford wants people will be clamoring for the cheap shit.

I don't think there will be a lot of clamoring for anything given the very, very small failure rate of LED headlights. But should you need to replace one outside of warranty you'd be far better off with an OEM used one (they will be in abundance within a couple of years) than anything aftermarket.

Sometimes you can buy from the supplier themselves, and that's another alternative. Ford obviously does not build these headlights. I'm not sure who does but it will be on the assembly somewhere.

Yet (maybe) another vote for extended warranty. Head lights could justify the warranty?

Not really. It's not a good bet.
Not in and of itself but all the very expensive things if need replacing may justify. Like all insurance it is expensive until needed. I also helped justify it as dealer sold me truck at MSRP as they called me first when it became suddenly available. I bought for my first edition but probably will not on my XLT LUX as my plan on it will be as trade on maverick lightning/phev or whatever.🤗
