I started up my 2025 Maverick hybrid on Sunday in my unheated garage (about -26C in there). It was about -34C in the open air as I drove to the grocery store (5 minute drive). I parked, got my groceries, and returned to my truck. It wouldn't start. Virtually every warning light on the dash came on, though. Accessory power was fine. i.e. radio, lights. I tried about 8 times with the same result but finally on the 8th time it started. The check engine light was on solid until I got back home. The air temperature warmed up later in the day to around -25C and I drove at highway speeds around town for about 30-45 minutes. The check engine light was on when I started out but went off sometime when I was driving it around.
What do you make of all that? Had I brought my battery booster with me and tried it, would that have made a difference? Or is this more complex of an issue than just a cold battery that needed a little help?

In such extreme cold I'd likely remote start the vehicle after parking and locking it so it stays warmed up while I'm in getting groceries. -40C/-40F is about where gasoline gels noticeably, so you may have had a fuel delivery issue if there was a little too much moisture in there. Hope you can get a good answer, and if you do, let us know!

I'd get out and lock it while it is still running - that will keep it going for 30 minutes.

Remote start max run time is 15.

Then half way through the grocery grab I’d walk to the front of the store and remote start for a second time.
You get two fifteen minute starts.

Today was me the lucky one...
I left my 2025 Hybrid (ony 8.5k km) parked for 2 days and this morning (Toronto, very cold these days), it was completelly dead!!!!
Waiting for road assistance.
I got some notifications about battery low for the last weeks, that prevent for remore start, but was random and i was waiting for 10k to book a checkup.

That's some seriously cold weather. Assuming you have electrical outlets in the garage would certainly use some kind of powered battery blanket and a battery maintainer.

Surprising to me how much battery capacity is lost in extreme cold, even for fully charged batteries.

"For instance, a fully charged battery that provides 100% of its power at a comfortable 77°F (25°C) may only offer about 40% of that available power when the temperature drops to -4°F (-20°C). This reduced output is compounded because the electrolyte solution itself becomes more viscous, or thicker, impeding the movement of the ions required to generate current."

"At –18°C a battery may deliver only half of its normal power."

Hybrids' engine isn't started by the 12v battery, it's only there to power the electronics

It was -20 for over a month here. -40 for a few days. I used the Mav every 3 days or so. Only ever short trips. I've had no issues. Block heater but no battery blanket or charger. the 12v seems to consistently test at 11.7v, so I'm going to the dealer to get that checked. I'd second having a battery trickle charger and/or heater for the 12v, which irritatingly will mean running a wire through the firewall - I'll be doing that for next winter as good insurance. Good luck with the issues and keep us updated.

Does anyone know if there is a cold temp cutoff for the hybrid? For example, my previous car was a 2014 Honda Accord hybrid and if the temp was -10F - -20F you'd get a reduced performance warning on the dash. The engine would run to warm up the interior and battery and then performance would be back to normal. If temps were below -20F, the car would not start at all. This info was in the owners manual.

Don't have book values but mine has worked fine at -40. Braking is VERY weird at these temps, which I suspect is no regen, as the battery is too cold to charge? Also 0 electric running (same reason I suspect)

The HVB will indeed be charged less and slower the colder it is.

Just had that this morning, at only 20 F out, after 5 min on the highway.
But with little HVB use at those speeds (one instance of EV mode on a coast), it was only about 25 F. I could see the system trying to throw some charge at the HVB to warm it up, and use it.
The max regen when I pushed Low button on the exit ramp was too high of amps - the engine was spun up to waste the electrical from the regen.
Though what was sent did warm it up to about 30 F when I got the green light.

So there is no warning or set cutoff on the low side - the system does what it will at varying degrees depending on ..... the degrees.
It is reduced EV performance though, as it tries to warm up the HVB with charging/discharging rates to allow more.

-36f last weekend with no problems starting and it's never garaged. The regen disappears after about -10f and mileage drops to the upper 20's at speeds between 55 and 75 mph. Hooray for winter. Couldn't say the same for the wife's EB, which wouldn't start until it got above -20f.
