IMO we are entering a new era. As a professional artist, I have to transport large artworks (not weighty) around. This isn’t something I have to do every day, but when I do, I need the space of a pickup or van. The rest of the time it’s just daily driving, like most people do. For 15 years Nissan Frontier king cabs with bed covers worked very well. The last purchase cycle, i went for a Transit Connect, which has been perhaps the most useful all-around vehicle I have owned - if pretty bare-boned. This time around I needed more flat floor space again and had been looking at mid-sized PU’s again. I wasn’t happy with the aging platforms that just sported facelifts (Ford, Nissan), or the newer rides which are getting less-than-great reviews (Colorado). And I still can’t fit an F-150 into my garage (even if I didn’t mind getting absurd gas mileage). I never imagined I would end up ordering a compact PU! I dismissed the MAV at first. I don’t need a back seat, and a 4.5 ft. Bed is practically useless for me. But then I watched the videos demonstrating how that short bed could be easily re-configured to carry larger objects like 4 x 8 sheets. I’ll still be carrying a useless back seat around, but this vehicle can become the hauler I occasionally need, and with a cover, that tiny bed will just be a large, useful trunk for groceries and supplies the rest of the time. The mileage is acceptable and for the same price as a modestly-equipped mid-size PU, I will be getting a full-house luxury vehicle with all the features my wife’s BMW has - making it much more likely she will want to ride in my "truck" occasionally. I don’t think that even a luxurious compact truck is going to satisfy those big Egos that need a vehicle to match, but for most people this return to practicality, combined with loads of contemporary technology, and the chameleon-like ability to transform itself to whatever form is necessary at the moment, is going to be a big, big hit.

Yesterday I sat in a XLT/w lux trainer at a dealer here in KC. Being 5'11" tall and 230 lb. I had plenty of room in the back sitting behind myself, from sitting in the front seats for a bit. Where I think it lacks space is in width. Two people like me in front (52" chest) and there is only a 3-4 inches of space between us. I sat in the front passenger seat and a like sized gentleman was in the drivers seat. The armrest is small but nicely covered in some premium vinyl, the capacity was somewhat small. When sitting in the back the seat is not bolt upright like the Ranger's. The seats are comfy with good thigh support for a short sit like yesterday, all day comfort YTBD. You'll be glad in has a rotary shift knob, it really opens up the space in front of the armrest. The seat fabric is a bit "ruff" but should wear well. Will go to Katzkin for leather in front. Don't think my back seat will see a lot of action, just luggage and shopping bags, they don't need leather. It's sad that I sit here in Limbo waiting for a scheduling. Hope some of this info was helpful.

@ReadyMav From your original post it seems you have one child, right? When I looked at the truck in person at and event one of the things I thought about was rear leg room. We had a guy who was 6' 3" move his seat back and recline it to see how comfortable the fellows in the back would feel. He got pretty far while still being comfortable. I have a 7 month old, and I'm sure his rear facing seat will be fine back there. I like putting his seat in the middle of the back, but it should be fine behind the passenger seat. Not sure about multiple car seats. I would say two would be fine. 3 might be tough.
That’s right…1 kid. I agree……1 is doable 2 is tight but doable 3 get myself a mini-van

It really depends on the car seat and how it interfaces, but I would suspect that your wife will not be able to put the passenger seat all the way back with the rear car seat installed. I have a Transit Connect with supposedly an inch more legroom, and we had to move the seat up when we had the rear facing car seat in, though again it depends on the model of carseat.

I'm 6'2 and could sit semi-comfortably in the second row with the seat farther back than what could fit the carseat.

I wish they made a regular cab for us old geezers that don't want to be a taxi. More room in the bed for junk, pick your speed, pick your radio station, pick your route and no complaints so driving is more fun.:)
You'd think since it was a unibody yeah they could do that . But for the price point they need uniformity. I've seen other post describing the truck as a left over parts car from the others in the lineup. I'm ok with that.

Should be find. I ha e 2 kids, one still in a high back booster, the other a long 9 year old in a booster. I researched the hell out of the dimensions and determined that they should be just fine when I take them to school every morning.

Let me start off by saying I’m sold on the Maverick. I placed my order for a Carbonized Gray 2.0T AWD FX4 Lariat in early August. But as I continue to see walkaround and review videos I can’t help think….is the Maverick crew cab going to big enough for a young family? Today I drive a 2018 Honda Accord and rear legroom is 40”….super comfortable. Car seats don’t interfere with front seats, wife has plenty of room when helping the 18 month old, buddies don’t complain on long road trips everyone is happy. When I look at the Maverick rear legroom spec of the 2.0T (what I have on order) of 36.9” I’m just not sure not sure everyone would feel the same as they do in the accord. 3” rear legroom difference doesn’t seem like much but can mean the difference between knees in seats or front seats moved up further to accommodate a car seat. I want to buy this truck when it lands at the dealer, but I also don’t want to cramp my style (no pun attended). Thoughts? Has anyone had the opportunity to pop a rear facing car seat in the back seat? Do you think the back seat will be one passengers complain about?

I had the same though test out in a ranger about same since and worked fine.
