Unless the Santa Cruz is going up in price similarly, the Maverick value proposition is weakening
I got the Maverick with every option you can get in XLT trim except Co pilot and it was $32K. To outfit the SantaCruz similarly in the way I wanted it is $40K. The Maverick is still the price point champion by a large margin. I am not saying I wouldn't love better factory audio or a bigger screen. But at its price, it is very hard to beat. There isn't much to argue in that.

Maverick Lariat EB, Lux, 360 and Assist, 4k, with retractable tonneau and bed liner, moon roof and extended warranty is closest comparable to Santa Cruz Limited. At that point pretty sure Santa Cruz is cheaper. Santa Cruz has ventilated seat and a rear ac vent. To get cooled sears on Maverick you'd need aftermarket, and then it for sure is more than Santa Cruz.

Maverick has better off road, better towing, motorized rear window, and better looks. Those are the only reason I am going Maverick. Pretty sure I'd come out cheaper on a SC if I dug on on the features I'm getting.

Possible, sure. Easy, cheap, pretty? Probably not.

It’s not even a simple drop-in replacement on a 2020-22 Escape. Everything from the AC vents up would have to get replaced, perhaps even the dash. The climate control module would need to get swapped with the new start button, drive mode selector, radio power/volume, etc module.

Then there’s the new OTA functionality that extends beyond Sync 4. Likely can’t do that without whatever electrical upgrades they’ve done.

So then you’re left with an extra start button behind the steering wheel and drive mode selector below the parking brake. Do you remove those as well or just let it be?

Unless you just wanted to tack the 13.2” Sync 4 screen on somehow, instead of doing it the way they leave the factory.

I built a plug in hybrid Escape this morning. just over $45k. Ouch. It's the same price at the Corolla GR Circuit Edition I'm drooling over.

I just like my Maverick too much, although I am trying to figure out what I should sell so I can get the Corolla too lol
Wow… that’s a lot for an Escape, which is essentially an economy car.

I'm genuinely scratching my head about why Ford didn't raise Maverick prices more. The market will bear it. Corporations aren't altruistic. But Ford seems to be acting that way. It's a genuine puzzle. It seems like they could move all the Mavericks they want for another $2,000 each on the bottom line.
I think they are trying to hold the price down since the Maverick is their entry vehicle now that the Ecosport is going away

Do the aftermarket ones still work with the steering wheel controls? That's one thing that seems to always disappear with the aftermarket ones. With Forscan, I'm sure there's a way to get it to recognize probably.
I can only speak for my friend's 2018 Accord and his aftermarket radio, but yes, it was able to be integrated with his steering wheel switches. I'm not privy to the exact details behind that. I do know that he's had ongoing issues getting the factory rear camera to work with the head unit, and so far he's willing to hook up and mount an aftermarket camera to get it to work.

I have the current 8" in my 2020 Escape. Honestly, I don't think anything bigger than that is really needed. What's funny is my parents passed on the 2020 in favor of the 2019 Escape because they felt the screen was too big.

If you could get the wider display for $1000 or $1500 would you?
Technology is cheap. Especially an LCD screen. It is ridiculous how they make it out that a larger screen means more cost to them. It's not, but they realize they can make a lot more money on a larger screen pointing out to the buyer that they don't want to be stuck with a small screen. Remember what they charged for rear backup cameras before the Federal govt. mandated them in every vehicle? I can buy an aftermarket rear camera for $15.

Good question, I always think about that like oh man that display is huge but you're always so restricted with what you can do with it anyways so I think I would say no.

I think the bigger display would just look less half assed or 2/3 assed as what they are shipping at virtually no extra cost to Ford. I'm hoping they upgrade to Sync4 at some point so I don't have to do that myself. Assuming I get my truck...

2016-2019 and 2020-2022 Escape equipped with Sync 3 have the same 8” screen size. Only the base system without touchscreen has a smaller screen.

2013-2015 Escape with the MyFord touch system (predecessor to Sync 3) also had an 8” touchscreen.

2023+ Escape still offers that 8” size at the lower end, now with Sync 4. The 13.2” system is an upgrade.

Since I'm coming from no screen/infotainment the current offering is great to me. A bigger screen would be nice I guess but it's not something I actively desire. I do hope they keep the analog guages for future models tho. I like the old school look and it's easier on the eyes than more tiny screens.

They went to dealer. 2020 model on lot had an 8" screen; 2019 model on lot didn't. They got the 2019 because they preferred the smaller screen.
