Welp. My transmission is dead I think. I was coming back home from camping and driving at a steady 75 using cruise control (speed limit is 70 out here). Noticed the transmission was holding a low gear for some reason as I was going down hill, and when the grade went flat the truck started slowing down which I thought weird, cruise control is still on. After slowing to 70 it suddenly rev'd up to redline for a split second like it got popped into neutral. I got the little wrench icon and the truck said to service soon. It seemed to work fine for a bit after that and I was fairly close to home so I decided to limp it. It was doing ok but once I came to a stop for my exit, it shuddered a lot trying to move like driving a manual with a really grippy clutch. It got worse from there and started slipping under almost any amount of power and hunting for gears so I babied the throttle and limped it home. It did ok when the rpms were below 2k rpm so that's where I stayed and accelerated extremely slowly.

It acted a lot like there was no transmission fluid in it, but the underside was dry from what I could see. I haven't abused the truck, it wasn't hot out, and have only towed twice with this thing. It gave no indication of failing besides those last dozen or so miles. Don't off-road it, don't drive in sand, just gravel roads a few times getting to camp. Completely stock.

RIP, it'll take a month just to get an appointment and probably another couple months for them to figure it out and get parts. Why me...
Besides making them give you a free loaner, check the details of what your state lemon law consists of. Many states will consider your car lemon if it is out of commission for X number of days regardless of the reason. I have an XL eco-boost front wheel drive coming in shortly but with all the problems they’re having I doubt I will buy mine. It’s gonna take them a while to figure out all the problems.

Keep in mind you are reading the forum where people post problems... There are tons of silent mavericks owners who have no issues. Like me, until I did.

In WA, It is only considered a lemon if the diagnostic process has started AND it has been out of service for 30 days. I would probably do it to get a tremor if it really takes them that long. I'm not demanding a loaner simply because I don't need it that bad and it would just take up space and reduce enjoyment from my project car.

For what it's worth, my old Buick did the exact same thing (pre Covid by 4 years) at only 30k. It was nothing more than a linkage and solenoid problem. Had my doubts that that would fix it but the car is now with my kid and still going strong after more than 120k. So don't despair despite the long wait.

Did you have any harsh shifting before the Transmission blew up? I’ve been having harsh shifts start happening at lower gears.

I did not have any harsh shifting. It happened out of nowhere

So update: just got the truck to the dealer (after a bad experience of them trying to push towing charge on me until proven issue, and Ford roadside not showing up for 45 minutes after the scheduled time... Ended up cancelling and just limping it there myself), and they said the valve body is bad. They will not be replacing the entire transmission, just the valve body and those are the orders from Ford corporate. Not too upset, the less they have to touch the truck the better, but I did ask they take pictures of the drained fluid and look for any metal flakes or clutch material. Since I was very gentle on it once it started slipping I don't think it'll be an issue but just in case I'm having some kind of proof taken. They said I should have it back in 3 days, so that's good news.

Got the truck back today, official diagnosis was sticking valves in the valve body. Had a code for shift module failure and another for friction element apply time/range. At least the service was quick. Literally everything else was pulling teeth from Ford. Overall not happy with the experience but happy to have the truck back.

I've had valves issues on a 03' superduty once. Really annoying because it sounds like nothing but clearly it's just not working. Glad your dealership was able to troubleshoot. Hope that it's smooth sailing here on out!

Can someone do me a favor and post a video of the rpm gauge in any gear from 35-70mph doing the following:

-Let off throttle completely
-Apply 10% throttle and hold, as if holding a constant speed with your foot.

My RPM gauge flutters a bit when I do that and I want to know if it's normal or something is still wrong. There are some other things I noticed too but I can't tell if they were there prior to repair because it's been so long so I used the truck. They're all at very low throttle so I think it might just be an auto thing.
