I have the hybrid xlt. It didn’t come with any ac plugs just the 12v inside nothing outside. It’s there a way I can set up an inverter to use in the bed. That way I have power when tailgating or midnight releases at GameStop. (I know nerd alert lol) or also using power tools when I do my projects.

Order a 12v lighter plug for the flexpower thing in the bed
Buy an inverter (EDIT: 250w max IIRC) to plug into the 12v lighter socket
Done

Any recommendations on an inverter? And could I just use the wire that came with the truck (under the rear seat) and connect that to the inverter? I am thinking of “hiding” the inverter and use a plug extender with a waterproof cover.

You have a hybrid so it is possible to install a 2000W inverter. I added an outlet in my bed for it (though I had a 400W plug back there already, I printed a new faceplate).

See this thread: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...-removable-inverter-installation.44646/page-7

Here are the original part #s for the bed outlet parts, if you want to use some of them: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...-and-light-that-goes-in-bed.13429/post-273208

400W isn't really enough power for anything useful, so if you're going to do it I would go all-in with the 2000W. Though you'll lose some under-seat space.

Lighter socket inverters usually top out around 180W to account for commonly being rated for 15a. The Flexbed points are fused at 20a, but that doesn't give much more headroom (~250W).

You're right, thanks for correcting. It's +/- 250w you can get out of a 20a circuit, not 400w. I edited my original post

There is no way for the Maverick hybrid to run a 2,000 watt inverter off of the small 12v battery. The Maverick hybrid does not have an alternator so it won't matter if you have the engine running, you still won't be able to provide enough current for a 2K inverter.

The linked thread in the post you quoted shows several people doing exactly that, with tested results. 🤷‍♂️

last week I traded my ‘23 XL hybrid for a ‘25 , this inverter mounted to back of cab , right now im putting it & a small 110v air comp. in well rear left side , 650 cca AGM battery

This is just incorrect… rather than having an alternator, the hybrid maverick has a DC/DC step down from high voltage to the 12V bus.

When the ignition is on, the service manual says it is rated for ~265A @ 14.5V, so that’s 3.8kW. The little 12V battery isn’t even involved.

You will have to be careful dealing with high current, you need 1/0 gauge wire at least. Make sure you fuse it separately, I used a 250A fuse. (The DC/DC step down is fused at 300A)

I powered a 1700W load for almost an hour, so it certainly works. You can see the current being provided by the DC/DC and the depletion of the HV battery using FORScan/OBD2.
(The engine will kick on in ~3 minute cycles at high load, there are some numbers by other people in that thread)

In thread long long ago. It was posted that the OEM inverter acted as if it was a split phase modified sine wave. Said his electrical buddy said that since a vehicle has no true ground (the rubber tires isolate the body ground from the ground ground) the 20 amp would provide steady dc current to be split between each of two load lines. Since it's an inverter and not a transformer each load line can be out of phase with each other. Each line will be AC outputting 60 volts. (Thinking of the 120 volt plug black wire being 60 volts to green body ground and white wire being 60 volts to green body ground the load lines will appear as 120 volts. This is the same as the 120 wiring to 240 in your home except it is 60+60=120. The circuit is derated from 250w possible to 200w load to protect the wires and the inverter shares that current for each leg. (No way a true sine device would see this as usable current.). In any case this is how the 120 volt output is at 400 watts while only using part of a 20 amp fuse. Check out split phase inverter!

I'm thinking about getting a couple of those 12v lighter plugs for the bed of my truck from maverickinnovation on etsy, but I haven't found any clear guidance on the maximum wattage for a plug-in inverter to use with them. I'm seeing some say that 150w (maybe 250w??) is probably the maximum like this one -

Ford Maverick 110v plug for bed. invert

anybody have any experience/recommendations for inverters to use with the lighter plug?
