The act of comparing does not require similarity, never has. You can compare your Mav to a Mustang if you choose.

Why do so many always assume objects compared must be similar?

There are two of them in my neighborhood and I've seen more than a dozen around town. My aunt had one on order, but cancelled when they got rid of the base model. Mind-blowing performance - it's ridiculous to compare our Mavericks to them - but there is no way I could justify $75k+ on a truck...especially one that ugly.

I 100% agree.
Up until I purchased the Maverick, I was a die-hard manual driver. I actually bought a 2016 CX-5 MT-6 and a 2018 Colorado MT-6 primarily due to the transmission offering.
During those times, I used to get roasted by some for the very notion of cross-shopping some of the vehicles as they were "in different market segments", and "nobody does that".
Everyone's needs and desires vary, and I needed an efficient daily driver with some utility and reasonable efficiency (plus a manual). The fact that some choices on my list were trucks and some SUVs was unreasonable to some.

Let's compare "truck stuff" then.
We should start with standard towing capability because that's a truck thing. The Maverick has a standard 2,000 pound towing capacity and the Rivians is 11,000.

Then we can move on to standard torque because that's a truck thing to. The Maverick comes standard with 155 ft. pounds and the Rivians is 908 ft. pounds.

What is another good truck thing to compare? How about payload capacity? The Maverick has a standard 1500 pound payload and the Rivians is 1760.

Next we can move on to another great truck thing to compare which is the 4 wheel drive system. The Maverick does not come standard with 4wd the Rivian has 4wd standard.

Horse power numbers are another great truck thing to compare. The Maverick comes standard with 191hp and the Rivian has 835hp standard.

I can keep going if you want but most of these numbers make these two vehicles non comparable.
🥱 They both have a bed and four wheels. I could go on but that’s really all that needs to be said.

Look what just parked next to me. A Rivian.

Almost exactly the same size as the Maverick.

Not quite the same price.

He did have suspension set to "low" but body height and bed height was identical to a stock Maverick. The crew cab was just a couple inches longer. Front bumpers and windshields were even in these photos.
He can go 340 miles.
I can go 700 miles.

Hmmmm. By a Rivian for the company truck and take it off their taxes.

Those Rivians look like a double Edsel from the front. Can't say I'm a fan. . .

Thanks for the post, it's interesting to see them in the wild (both the Mav and the Rivian).

Surprised no one has mentioned that both the Maverick and Rivian are similar in that they are bringing new buyers into the truck segment. As a Ford and Rivian shareholder I say MOAR to both. Also both are pretty neat engineering feats.

I didn't see anything about environment. I was watching a documentary by a Green Peace scientist who basically was saying hybrids were more environmentally friendly than all electric cars. (He also said we were chasing the wrong tail looking at automotive polluters as a primary way to fight global warming but that's a story for another day). The hybrid vs. electric made sense and if accurate, it's another check in the Maverick column.

First of all lets compare standard towing capacities not optional towing capacities. Then lets put an 11,000 pound load behind a Maverick and see what the range is on the Maverick. Then lets put a 2,000 pound load behind a Rivian and see what the range is.

I'm gonna put my money on the Rivian but lets keep talking "truck stuff" since they are both trucks and are their fore comparable.

The Maverick uses a unibody style "frame" construction while the Rivian has a body on frame construction.

The Maverick comes standard with a 54" box and the Rivian comes standard with a 60" box.

Lets move onto the chassis for more truck stuff. The Maverick uses a simple yet effective strut and torsion beam suspension standard and the Rivian uses a strut and mutli link suspension standard on all models.

Another good measure of a truck is it's breaking ability. The Maverick comes standard with 12.8" vented front disk breaks and 11.9" non-vented rear disc breaks. This brings a 3700 pound Maverick from 70-0 in 158 ft.
The Rivian comes standard with 13.5" vented front disk breaks and 12.9" vented rear disk breaks. This brings a 7100 pound Rivian from 70-0 in 177 ft.

I can keep going if you want but most of these numbers make these two vehicles non comparable. Or better yet lets start talking non truck stuff like cargo capacity and performance.
Wow. Did you even read my post? The part where I wrote "But nobody is buying a Maverick expecting to tow heavy loads. And I suspect that very few people are buying Rivian's for that purpose, either. More power to them, I say... Glad there are different trucks for different purposes"?

It's absolutely asinine to do a feature-by-feature comparison of a $100K truck to a $22K truck. I'm back to "different trucks for different purposes" and done with this ridiculous discussion...

Ooh more jealousy in this thread.

Maverick is an economical, utilitarian vehicle.

R1T is a more premium/luxury vehicle.

Some people see the value in the novelty, in the extra features, in the fully electric powertrain. Some of y'all don't. But you don't need to look down on others because of it.

If I had >$100,000 to throw at a truck, I wouldn't be in the market for a Maverick. I don't begrudge anyone buying whatever they want and can afford. Have fun.

But my first house cost less than $100,000 less than 15 years ago. That's just a mental barrier that I can't get through just yet.

Mind you, if you were looking to throw $100k+ on a truck, you would either just really want the truck over anything else in life, or be in a position where a $100k house looked like a backyard shed to you. :)
