I guess it's all in each person's eyes what they like, when I was 30 I bought a new 1990 Cougar partly because I liked the currant red metallic which looks a lot like the ruby red, was never a fan of the "hot pepper red", too much orange, I am much more a fan of this new color red.

I love red but the cops seem to like them as well. Here's my red 89 cougar SC

But it's important to still buy a $5k beater vs getting a loan to buy a new $30k+ car. People are too willing to talk themselves into debt or justify overpaying for things they "want". Vs .... Buying what they "need", voting with their wallet, and waiting for those votes to bear fruit in the open market.

Everywhere we look prices where being jacked up, but people just kept buying and justifying their overspend. Whether you can afford it or not, you vote with your wallet. But the XL instead of the XLT or lariat, buy store brand vs name brand, etc. Do it until price of things you actually want drops ... Perhaps years.

If it was cool and socially desirable to drive old, economical, and easily repairable cars then the new car market would look different and regulation would be too. But ... people as a whole aren't that smart or self disciplined 😞.
No different than voting. People, as you say, vote in the same ones year after year. I guess you are smarter than all of us and not near as disciplined. Your comments are offensive,.

Holy crap I am so tired of hearing this every time the 2025s come up.
A: they were never $19,995. Never. And even if they were the dealer would mark them up. That number was a marketing gimmick from ford to get people in the door because they knew they would never have to honor it.
B: it's not the same truck anymore. You're getting way more features in the base truck than the 22'-24's.
C: even if you weren't given any more than the old trucks, whomp whomp, they have a 6 month backlog. Clearly people are willing to pay more for more features.
D: even at 40k there is nothing competing in this segment. The Santa cruz sucks and the honda Ridgeline is massive and only comes with a v6.
E: At the base price it comes in, even the 2025 model, it's one of the cheapest new vehicles you can buy today. Let alone a hybrid awd "truck" that can tow 4000lbs. You're not buying it for the interior you're buying it for the utility. You guys are like "hurrdurr da interior sucks" Yeah no shit, it would be a $60,000 vehicle if it had a nice interior.
Finally, somebody sane speaks the truth.

I second that ! If the man wants to spend his hard earned money on a new truck then good for him. Don't beat I'm up over what you agree or disagree with. Keep driving those $5000 beaters as you call them . Have a wonderful day

Looks decent but I'm still bummed that's replacing Hot Pepper Red. That color really stands out in the sun. This new one looks more like a brick red which is just okay, not great. The HPR is an orange red which is very unique. I mean, just look at my avatar. Sun beating right on it (y)
I agree. I have the HPR. It really looks great.

Your thought process is offensive 😁. You're personally offended because I touch on "people as a whole" as a nod to human psychology or herd mentality?

You'd rather politely support your neighbors with a smile in the act of getting into debt they don't need? All while knowing they are being influenced to buy more vehicle than they need and supported in doing so by a bank charging them interest?

No sir or ma'am, I'd much rather offend someone, help push them to be less in debt over the long run, and drive prices down for everyone on the whole.

I understand this, I’ve been driving my 13 Scion tc I got in June 2012 I paid it off and drove it ever since but I feel like it’s time for a new experience. I would keep both vehicles but I don’t see a point told my friend his daughter can have my tc.

See a reason I’m doing it is I only owe 6k left on my house which I’m paying off real quick then my last debt will be this Maverick. May wait til after I get Maverick tho because I read once you pay house off your credit can tank hard for a moment, would hate to do that before I get a loan

But itl be nice for little truck bed and room for passenger, I’ve never had someone in rear of tc in 13 years lol
Perhaps I should have used the word "and" vs "but" to start the post because I was trying to build on the topic of inflation you mention about $5k beaters. Not make a rebuttal in any way. Just the fact that you know about the beater market shows you think. As well as this reply you thought out.

I often express the very extreme opposite end of the coin because so much advertising and even our general culture pushes people toward debt. I think that there should be more voices pushing in the opposite direction. Commend people for having less stuff and better financial security. In your case driving the Scion while securing your home, which is a big accomplishment 👍.

Amen: A large portion of people have not been exposed to budgeting, saving, etc. when I started school in 1949, my weekly allowance was raised to $0.50 but I had to pay $0.05 towards utilities. Phone was free as I would answer our long, short, short party line ring. When I was old enough at 11 to work my utility dole was increased. Today I put almost all on my credit cards to get the 1.5-2.0% cash back AND PAY 100% BY DUE DATE. I did finance my 2022 at 100% out the door to keep credit score up. 5 year 2.25%.
My 77 yr old younger brother is family savings winner. He has had same employer since 1970-71, is drawing SS+co retirement +401k + current wages (since he is still working and getting company match, etc paying into retirement his monthly retirement checks increase several hundred dollars per month annually. He also, last update at least still owns his 200 shares of apple at IPO. He said that his portfolio went down 1.3 mil in the covid dip but has more than recovered). He has no thought of retiring and enjoys his job. He also buys at garage sales and resales usually $500-$2500/month. He runs a van pool commuter to work to get preferred parking spot which also brings in a few. Bottom line = not paying interest and not buying things you do not need can be good.
I have a nephew that paid off $175k house in 41 months by paying everything in his checking account over $1200.00 on his house payment each month.
ETA: He had to buy an automatic when his 34 year old stick Honda ice quit!!! (420k miles, I think.

I’m hoping/planning to get a hybrid XLT once my Bronco Sport is paid off next year and had been waffling between eruption green and azure gray, but wow, this red is very tempting.

My first BS (totaled by a reckless driver five months after I got it) was rapid red and I was bummed the 2022 I got to replace it was hot pepper red instead, though it’s grown on me. My first car was a fire engine red ‘68 Mustang, so I’ve always been partial to red vehicles. Decisions, decisions!

As for the other debate raging here, my current truck is a 2002 Ranger Edge, and I never wanted anything larger than that. The Maverick will be an adjustment, but I’ve realized I really like having a small truck around and the Ranger can’t go on much longer at 310,000 miles. No way would I ever get a full-size truck.

Agreed, if you cannot afford a Lariat.
If you can, why not.

Ha-ha, no, thanks. Hard pass. 🤭
None of that statement applies to those who truly have the funds. Spend it on what ever you like. Though it is debatable that the interpretation of "truly have the funds" will vary wildly from person to person.

Overall I think this forum is full of value hunters, which is awesome.

I find the psychology of spending interesting. Watching so many people here both express dislike with a price and then talk themselves into it. Knowing that banks and salesmen are on their shoulder pushing them in one direction, I like to play the opposite side cause not many do 😁.

Just curious, I thought the 25 lariats were supposed to have fog lights included from the factory?
