Yes I know, that is to the left. This is on the right side under the mat. There is a small plastic door that has a flat cable attached to it.

In the Ecoboost that is the manual park release cable if 12v current is not available for towing. See "Using Manual Park Release" in manual. Other things have to be done...

My wife's car has push-to-start and it just makes me uneasy, for some reason. We have had keys and tumbler ignitions down for awhile now, why try to fix what isn't even remotely broken?

Have a 2024 Maverick Lariat. Ford says:

"The backup slot can be found in the console storage compartment, cup holder, or another location depending on the year and model of your vehicle."

I have looked high and low for this and cannot locate. If my key fob fails, I thought you could start the vehicle with this key?

That's correct, what was throwing me a bit was the pad in the bottom didn't seem to be removable. Upon further effort I did pull it and see the recess for the fob.

That part is shared with other vehicles e.g. 2020-2022(+?) Escape that do have their backup slot there. For Maverick, they relocated the backup slot to the console bin but didn't spend the $$ to mold/produce a separate tray.

As seen from the 2022 Escape manual section on retrieving the SecuriCode master key but the procedure is similar for programming a third fob or to start the vehicle if the fob battery dies:
