Have a 2024 Maverick Lariat. Ford says:

"The backup slot can be found in the console storage compartment, cup holder, or another location depending on the year and model of your vehicle."

I have looked high and low for this and cannot locate. If my key fob fails, I thought you could start the vehicle with this key?

I certainly did. Says to look under starting and stopping, which has ~ 120 hits on a search, none of which appear to be related to using the mechanical key, unless you have the mechanical key slot as shown, which I do not.

Open the center console and take everything out of it including the pad covering it's floor. There is an outline or recess to place the fob. When fob is placed there the truck can communicate without internal power at that location. The key in lariat is for emergency door access.
You may also have to use the jump postst under the hood if 12v battery is dead.

IIRC, (manual out in truck) the Lariat with its push button start just requires you to put the remote fob in the bottom of the center console where the truck can read the diode it contains, then the start button will work. Have not tried because my battery in the remote has not died. The simple key just unlocks the door to get you in.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I would have had no clue! There is no outline there, what is there is a little plastic door that has an electrical connection to it. I assume that is what will sense the fob being there.

You don't have this? You have to take the black mat out that lines the bottom.

Also the location there is mostly for if the battery in the fob fails. I don't know how impervious the RFID circuitry it utilizes is, but if the fob was physically damaged or submerged it may not work.

It's also used to program additional key fob.

Mine is not glued down, but is difficult to remove. I used a plastic fork to get an edge started.

Thanks, I dug at it a bit more and it did come loose. Low and behold, there is a recess to match the fob! Then what is the one under the front next to the phone charger under the rubber mat?

In some early models, there was a pull ribbon to put the transmission into neutral for towing (if the battery was dead).

The flat one big enough to lay a phone flat on it is a magnetic phone charger it will work through the rubber mat if your phone accepts a cordless charger.
