I use the motorcraft 910S oil filter along with Mobil 1 5 w30 and change my oil every 4 to 5,000 mi after my first 3000 mi oil change. I just did my second oil change at 7475 mi and plan to do the next one around 11000 to 11500, as well as checking the engine air filter and changing it if needed.

I mean it only takes me 20 minutes in my garage and cost me under 45 bucks for the oil and filter.

Lol, the filter that came on mine from the factory literally just said "FORD" on it, nothing else. White filter, black letters..😄
Same for my 24 XLT. No motorcraft anywhere nothing just white with black Ford stamp on it.

Without some kind of scientific test it's all just guesswork with regards to which filter (OEM, wix, etc.) will work that best. I'm thinking any of the common options will do the job just fine. and no, these filters would not void your warranty.

I've been thinking about cutting open the oe filter to see what it looks like inside... I still have it draining on my used oil barrel

Heck many Ford dealers don't install Motorcraft filters on their customer cars.

And I would bet no two brands of filters have the exact same specs as the oem filters.

I have nothing against Motorcraft filters... I have used them on many different vehicles.
But I'm not concerned that one filter may have a 14# bypass valve and another brand will be @17#'s....not a factor.
If owning a Ford makes you want to skip around and pay less for a part that costs under $10, you will reap the rewards of being cheap. All in all, stick with OEM and Ford will hold up its warranty and you cannot go wrong. (if your engine blows up due to oil problems, do you quickly remove the foriegn filter and put on a Motorcraft)? I don't mean to be rude, but I have always just did what the book says to be safe when it comes to warranties.

I think the Baldwin filter is superior to the Motorcraft. Nothing wrong with the Motorcraft filters....I have used them many times.

But Ford simply requires a record of the services performed on your car ...that's all the proof you need. A dealer will do an oil analysis if you have an engine failure... that will generally prove or disprove any question about whether the car received proper care.

And I'm not cheap about maintenence. I use good oil and quality filters and change the oil every 3,000 miles.

I have years of experience in dealerships both in sales and as a wrench. I was ASE certified for seven years in engines, emission systems, heat/ac systems, suspension and engine electronics.

I'm not offended by your comments...
But I have been working on this stuff since the early 60's, I have a well equipped 1500 sq ft shop at home with a lift, chassis fabrication equipment and an engine assembly room where I have been screwing together race and hot rod engines for 30 years.

I have this handled.

Ford doesn't make any filters...all are supplied by vendors
👍 yep
Purolator currently manufactures Motorcraft oil filters per Fords specifications.
MANN+HUMMEL Purolator Filters LLC, more commonly known as Purolator, is an American manufacturer of oil and air filters, based in Fayetteville North Carolina
Since 2013, it has been a subsidiary of German filter manufacturer Mann+Hummel Purolator manufactured and sold the first commercially available automotive oil filters starting in the 1920s.

genuinely curious - what's the benefit besides easier to remove because it's longer?
I get that theoretically there is more media, so theoretically better flow and less pressure drop, but I don't think I have seen this particular comparison anywhere. There is also the question of bypass valve - will the spring me too strong in the larger filter and cause problems?
As others have said, your truck - do what you will, but do you have any numbers to show the benefits?

I think you already answered your own question. I would also add the ability to just use 6 quarts of oil vs. measuring and storing partial bottles. That's in the case of using the FL-1A sized filters, other sizes will not be the same

It's easy enough to check the settings on bypass valves. How often is your oil filter getting clogged or your oil too thick for the filter to cause problems? You seem very concerned.

Be wary of auto parts bought on Amazon. I bought an FL-910S filter on there and the filter box printing was really really bad. And the filter openings were different than the Motorcraft I had in the garage. Less openings with different shapes than true OEM Motorcraft filter from walmart. It looked counterfeit and my mechanic agreed. I returned it.

Not saying all filters bought on amazon are counterfeit. Just be careful who you deal with on there.
Indeed happens a lot with ngk plugs.

No one is forcing you to keep that extra 0.3 qts of oil on hand. Just throw it in the batch of old oil and recycle it.

These engines go 200k-300k with proper maintenance why screw up a good thing?

FL400 bypass is set to 20 psi the FL910 is 14.5 psi.

There is a reason they spec'd the 910 and not 400...filtration is the same at 80%/20 micron. I highly doubt the smaller oil filter is getting clogged with debris in 5000-10000 miles. If so you have bigger issues.
