I own an ordered 2022 Hybrid XLT, live in cold Canada….since ownership I have been concerned by the indicated temp on the gauge. In mind, the gauge should always read mid temp, winter summer highway town…an ICE makes and needs heat to run at its peak. Has anyone put a winter front on the grill or gawd forbid, cardboard over the radiator? If so did it raise the ICE temp ? At 100 kmh its hard to keep the cabin warm and the windows clear. Rear seat passengers need a throw blanket to be comfortable at -20 C in this vehicle. Thoughts?

Has your '22 had the recall that removed some of the louvers on the radiator grill to allow for better engine compartment ventilation. This could be an unwanted side effect.

In my opinion.
I consider the Maverick hybrid A/C outstanding even at 117°+
The heater only mediocre when the engine is cycling on and off constantly.
If I lived back in the upper midwest, I would want the Ecoboost for sure.

You can for sure block the radiator in winter. I did on my Hybrid Escape when I was in Denver, CO.

I bought a (vinyl?) cover, like a bra (remember those?) and was fine October to May. And Denver isn't that cold usually. Used it for years. It helped quite a bit. Got like triple the city EV use in winter. Probably reduced MPG hit from the commonly reported 25% loss down to 10-15% loss.

Highly recommend. For peace of mind you can read the actual digital temperature to 1 degree resolution if you wish. Use an ODBII scanner if you want it visible all the time.

If you just want to read it once or twice for confidence I'm right, you can do this for free, today, by entering "Engineering Test Mode" on your stock dash. But the engine temperature will only stay for the current key-on cycle. You'll have to pull it up via a series of button presses each and every start-up.

I'm currently in a mild climate, otherwise I would have already done this to mine.

Either the engine temp drops at a crazy high rate, or the display is incorrect.

I’m thinking of doing the same.
Anyone got a recommendation of a cover and mounting method?

With a 2022 if you had the possible engine fire recall done the bottom 2 or three grill shutters have been removed to prevent any leaking oil fumes from building up. May need to have dealer reinstall or do whatever Ford recommends. If you run ice on max heat (be sure max temp is selected with the knob as well as using max ac button). This will keep ice on and not cycling (you may have to turn temp setting off max to a number when it gets too hot) as well as the electric cabin heater along with the ice coolant loop heat.

According to the manual the grill vents will always be open at highway speed, so the removal won't have much effect vs a Maverick that doesn't have that engine fire recall.

if you want the ice to run all the time couldn’t you just switch the mode to Sport instead of monkeying with the temp and AC?

So have to keep temp set to max heat so ice stays on, I guess

In extreme cold I suppose. I just use the heated seats and steering wheel to help, lux package is a must in Canada and areas with cold winters.

You could but cabin heat might not get as warm as auxillary electric heater might not run as much. I consider -20°C as stay home or drive way south weather. Also set the fan speed faster to at least 3 or 4 as max fan is loud also.

My '24 is running cool so I was thinking of blocking the radiator myself. I've been avoiding using the cabin heat to warm up the engine and it's going to be a damn long winter here- in the teens already. I've also been trying to take some longer trips too to get the oil good and hot. I might change it a little more often.

This is what I do to. I only turn the defrost on if I see the windows start to fog... I am trying to let go of the urge to max out the elective driving now that the temps have started to drop. I mean on my worst day I am still only using 1/3 of the fuel I used to use on my commute to work in my old SUV!

Some who post are complaining of their ac coming on by itself. There is a humidistat that will turn on defrost when the cabin temp is approaching the dew point. It circulates a low speed air through the foot area unnoticed by most. Sometimes I can catch a small amount of fog starting to form but very seldom and turn defrost on. Once while not wanting to start anything serious by asking wife to stop talking I said "look the window has a slight bit of fog! We must be panting too heavily!". 😇 I will use my seat and steering heaters starting on high and lowering seats to level 1 after a few minutes. When ambient gets below 35°F I will set cabin to 65-70. (In summer set cool to 76°F). Weather in central Texas is generally winter 10-12 weeks and summer 14-18 weeks. I am super happy about mpg even running AC set 71°F winter 75°F summer on automatic.

2023 XLT Hybrid . Buffalo NY area. Last winter wasn't super cold but on highway engine temp always stays in middle like in summer no matter the heater setting,. BUT it cools down fast on slower stop and go roads as gas engine runs much less. Still no issue with window defrost BUT last winter wasn't very cold. Just wanted to share my results.

Since mine is 2023 Built July 2023 no idea about if the shudders work on mine?

Since YOU do have an issue I would try and cover it up in front.
