Here’s kind of a weird take: the Ford Maverick is embarrassing.

They aren't saying the Maverick is embarrassing to owners. It is to the other auto makers that aren't releasing a version.
Also its not even Jalopnik writers that wrote the comment, it was a commenter who is probably a member on this site as well.
The whole point was a compliment to Ford for making the Maverick and people on here are complaing about the whole jalopnik site? these inherit biases people are showing on this forum are crazy...

Why aren't other automakers making a SUV with a bed? Low profit margins that's why. Ford made the Maverick to keep their EPA fleet numbers in such a way that they can sell more F-150s and heavy duty trucks. A lot of other automakers still sell cars, which solves that problem for them.
I don't go in on what someone's opinion is on a vehicle that saves people tons of money and is valued the highest since the maverick in the 70's, (what a mess that was). I rented a vehicle last week, a car because all the SUV's were rented. I was driving and a VW pulled up next to me. I had to look up to see in the window. It has been a long time since driving a regular car, sedan, etc. and I would never buy one again. Thanks to the Maverick, I am saved from rolling out of the vehicle, sitting on the ground, looking up to see who is next to me, all because Ford has made what I consider the best truck for short people, 5'7", and just an overall perfect attraction, excluding the recalls of course. Thank you Ford.

Days of the $19,990 price are over. More models for 25 to choose from, more options, and (hopefully) less glitches, Ford is making $$ by selling as many as they make...not to mention hitting $40,000 mark. Toyota may be too little to late with ( and when) the Stout comes out. Anyway, happy with my 24 lariat.

The content is different than its title:

"Here’s kind of a weird take: the Ford Maverick is embarrassing. Not to Ford, though. It’s embarrassing because it is a HUGE success, but no other automaker seems to be able to create their own version! It should be so simple!!! Just take your small CUV, lengthen the wheelbase a bit, and add a bed!

Hyundai has tried with the Santa Cruz, but it’s not available as a hybrid, which is one of the things that makes the Maverick so good! Plus the bed is too small! And no Kia version?"

Ford has sold every one it can build, and it just keeps building more! Clearly there’s a demand for this type vehicle, but all the other carmakers are just, like, “Huh, how about that. Welp, we’ll just keep making generic crossovers.”

Last compact Chevrolet truck I owned was a piece of manure, the rebadged Isuzu Chevy Luv truck lasted for a mere 18,000 miles before the wiring harness smoked, we patched it up and stuck a used battery in it and traded for a Vega wagon and got another crappy vehicle but it did run.

I won't even click on a link from that useless e-journal... Pure garbage, poorly researched, always full of errors, pure sensationalism.
They were trained by the New York Times?

I don't even have to click the link to know it is a trash article. Jalopnik is the National Enquirer, or TMZ, of the auto industry. Their articles are rage bait, generally written by people not into cars, and as of late, are AI written/dictated.

On the topic being brought up, I have had the Maverick called everything of fantastic looking, and amazing, to damn ugly. I have not ever heard it referred to as embarrassing and I live in "real truck" land.

The floor pans seemed to have been made of aluminum foil. I know of several where there were holes where your heel sits for the clutch.

No disagreement there. But, I do believe today's Maverick owner is Ford's future customer again too. Quite likely, a truck customer and that's where the money is.
Maybe. The Maverick will be my first and last Ford, that much is for sure. I won't be fooled a second time into buying something built Ford junky. Not to say it's the worst vehicle ever made, but it is by far the most troublesome vehicle I've ever owned. I suppose electrical and software problems are the nor now, but I am more than willing to buy a 5-10 year old Japaneses vehicle with 150k miles and drive it another 150-200k miles without issues as I've always done before.

I agree, cheap Mavericks are gone, but still pretty reasonable and no other Hybrid little trucks out there. We like ours! Being a Toyota fan (have continuously owned at least one since 1980), I would definitely consider buying a Stout if:
1. It makes it to the market
2. Hybrid
3. AWD or 4WD
4. 4 door

The reliability and dependability have always been very good for me, although the new fangled computerized electronic stuff is bothering them, just like everyone else. I see you live in Dothan. I lived in Daleville in 1976 while attending flight school at Rucker. Good times until just after transitioning from TH55 (Hughes 269) to the old Huey. Got bounced from flight school for a medical condition on my eyes. Fun times though! Went on in life to fly trains. Ok, they don't fly, except down the rails! Ha!

Well nobody seems to have read the short story, dumb as it is. He says it’s embarrasssing to other automakers because the Maverick is such a huge success. He is NOT saying the vehicle is embarrassing to own, on the contrary.
Bob
Exactly. Isn't reading one of the basics we should all be able to do by 3rd grade? "Embarassing" is when most people that post on here don't seem to be able to do it!

I used to fly on Huey UH1-V as a flight medic in the reserves. Loved it!
