An unwanted Halloween "mod" Only 2,770 miles new:
I was rear ended heading back to work at lunch time on city surface streets. I slowed for traffic ahead of me, braking more than my pre-Hybrid days so the brake lights were on. The box van in front of me started to move just before I came to a stop and I was just letting up to start to accelerate when I was stuck. I'm pretty sure I was rolling about 5 MPH when a Plymouth Voyager ran into me. The driver said he only blinked for a moment. Nice enough guy, but not how I want to meet people. After determining everyone was ok we proceeded with gathering details and contacting Insurances....both CSAA, that's a relief.
I had an appointment at a Ford and CSAA approved collision shop this afternoon to survey the damages and prepare to fix it. I was disappointed that this initial appointment included taking pictures and noting that the bumper and tailgate will need to be replaced (Well not disappointed on replacements as I'm glad they are not repairing either item). There is a small dent below the drivers-side tail light that will be repaired. I was disappointed the estimator did not put it up on a rack to look under the truck or even drop the tail gate to look in the bed for any damage. When I got home I crawled under and looked at the hitch mounting bolts and the "frame" it attaches to. I found no indication the bolts had slid at all and no buckling in what was visible without pulling parts or dropping the spare. The receiver looks undamaged as well. The gaps between the rear fenders and doors looks fine and a quick look in the bed didn't reveal any buckling. I'm pretty sure I will get to drive it many more miles.
My Protect-and-Prevent priority mods campaign included a tailgate LED strip and some strips on either side of the 3rd brake light. There have been too many posts on MTC about totaled rear-enders so I've been paranoid.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0841K5FJB/ <<works ok, the only one I found 3-1/2 months ago that does not have amber or sequential turn sequences.
I already have another strip on order, this time one with more LEDS and am still searching for better strips for either side of the 3rd brake light. The pulsing LED 3rd brake light bulb is also on order.
