Hey Follks, Here is my tale of RECHR - rear end collision hit and run in a 2024 XLT AWD with LUX and tow packages

Sitting in traffic backed up from a stop light at a busy intersection - 4:00 pm/dry pavement, I got nailed from behind and saw a black full sized SUV in the mirror. With nowhere to pull over on that street I turned left and pulled to the curb right away. The impact dislodged my glasses and hearing aids and when I got my glasses on and out of the truck the SUV was nowhere to be seen. Its likely they tutned right and floored it, No witnesses stopped.

I've been rear ended on bicycle, motorcycle, car and now 2 trucks. I guess I'm O.K. but after a life of dropping the hammer and grinding the gears all the pain runs together. In fact I had just left my Doctors office after discussing my latest MRI.

I followed the insurance instructions for sending pictures and they soon wanted to send a check for about $1100 after my $500 deductable. You can see the damage to bumer and tailgate that was covered on their estimate. What they did'nt see was the frame bent at both pinch points, and the skewed box.

I'm bringing it in to a collision center affilliated with the dealership where I bought it. Their estimate is $20,534 with the frame rails costing 2,734 each.

I have'nt been told its a total yet, I do have GAP coverage.

My last truck, a used S-10 lasted me 14 years and I replaced everything but the body myself, with only 2 trips to the shop for lift nessecary stuff.

First thing I ever bought new and it's like it was made for me. When I read how much damage a slow impact could have, I installed the pulsating LED and I've always kept an eye out when slowing in traffic.

yikes - with frame rail damage the vehicle is ‘totaled’. If they give you any static, you may need to seek an attorney. :(

I suspect the LED's may help in a few cases. Rear enders are usually the result of not having your mind on the job of driving. Distractions such as putting on make-up, scratching scratch off lottery cards, and of course the PHONE. Even if it is coming thru the speakers it is still a distraction from concentrating on the road. It used to be lighting cigarettes; been there and done that!!! The other causes are following too closely or driving too fast for conditions such as wet roads. Does not sound like either of these two, caused this accident, however.

Glad you are ok; keep us posted on what happens and post pictures of your new Mav if it comes to that!!! Maybe you can name the new one for Bret's brother Bart?????????? For those who wonder what I am talking about, Google: Maverick tv series.:sneaky:🙂

I totally live in fear, I live in New Mexico. The drivers here are the worst. They will sit on your back and until the sun goes down, I get out of the way unfortunately you could not.

Order banks are open - you'll be ordering a new one - unless you are troubled by the fact that a relatively minor collision can put you out of business. If you're going to get it fixed then hopefully you also have rental car coverage as it'll like be out of commission for months. Glad you're OK.

That's why I have front and rear dash cams. It's getting crazy out there!
Makes for some good vids to put up on my YouTube Channel too!

BTW, my Maverick's name is also Bret...
