People who think of deprecating items as investments aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. The more expensive the car, the bigger the hit, other than some super high end stuff. That said, other than as a lease, I wouldn't get behind an EV, battery replacement is insanely expensive for the big packs.

Can't do much better right now than a Maverick when it comes to minimizing depreciation.

There is no denying the fact BEV's are a niche product. There is a segment of society that finds the necessity of owning one overrides the negatives. To each their own. Their money. Their life.

This article brings to light one should also consider before investing or buying an EV

https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...k-miles-can-t-even-get-51k-for-it-241443.html
This is absolutely fantastic news for frugal buyers; like people that own Mavericks.

I picked up a 2017 Tesla model S, with 44k miles, in 2021. New it was $80k. I got it for $35k. And now it has 140k miles on it. It has been trouble free. It’s been to the shop once, to replace the high voltage battery fuse, that was free, under the 8 year, 150k mile power train warranty. And all of my
Electricity to run it has been free, because my 36 solar panels make more energy than I use.

This massive EV depreciation is fantastic for people in the secondary market. I will definitely be buying my next EV from the used market as well.

EV’s are not niche. They simply haven’t reached the “mass adoption” phase yet, in your area. Where I live, in an affluent suburb of LA, half of all of the households in my neighborhood have an EV. Some have more than one EV. 25% of all new car sales in California are EV’s. And where gas is $5 a gallon and sun is abundant and solar panels are cheap, driving an EV just makes more economical sense.

Not to mention in California a single driver can use the carpool lane with a clean air sticker. I wonder if that exemption will be renewed Sept. 2025.
I bought my Volt PHEV from a guy San Jose who was selling it and a Ford Fusion PHEV only because the clean air stickers were expiring.

It's rumored that Steve Jobs never put license plates on a car. He got a new car every time the temporary tags expired (or shortly there after).
Half of owners, maybe more do not care about resale value. We keep the cars 15 years or more. We save more cash than those who resell cars.

EV’s are dead, in the European Union they are only 12.6% of sales and Audi is closing their big EV factory in Belgium. Instead of introducing $60-120K vehicles US and German manufactures should have gone after entry level price points like the Prius. I don’t see it changing at all unless EV’s are as cheap or cheaper than gas or hybrid. Ford loses $40K per vehicle so they have seen the light and even the girl genius at GM has started to see the light.

That's right, I live in a working class area where many men and women served in the military and work with their hands. We do not have 60-70K to dump on some glitzy EV you left coast Hollywood types seem so willing to embrace. But, good for you. You live in an affluent neighborhood of LA with globs of money. Good for you sounds like the capitalist system has been good for you.. That's what it is all about. America First. Congrats on that.

Our local GMC dealer has been sitting on a $152,000 Hummer for 3 months now. Maybe one of your neighbors would be interested in it.

In California EV's are the way to go. They have to many rules for vehicles that rely on gas to comply with.

I can get a hummer EV for $599/mo.

But I don't want one.
