Got a lucky score in this vintage early 70s 1100lb trailer! Even with a few hundred lbs of gear will be well under the 2,000lb towing capacity for my Maverick hybrid. Am sooo looking forward to get out camping again!
EDIT: Naturally the suggested mode is tow/haul. I'll be on relatively flat surfaces for most of my trip home with the trailer this weekend. Not worried about gas mileage but is there any benefit to the transmission (most important to me IF it would help) or engine to use ECO or Normal mode while towing?

1200lb trailer, plus 40lbs of propane (2x20lb tanks I see there), water? (another 100+lbs), a few hundred pounds of gear? Yeah you will hit the real 1500lb limit (use the Ford towing calculator) for towing fast. I hope it works out and doesn't have leaks!

I think you'll be fine.

Keep in mind tires are good for only about 7-8 years. The rubber rots, even if the tread looks good. Make sure the trailer has good tires.

Pull at any safe speed that keeps the power needle under 50% and you'll be fine.

Total weight on a full 20 pounder is closer to 53-59 pounds but you're right, weight creeps up real fast when adding camping gear.
Packing light isn't just for backpackers, it's equally important when dragging a trailer, most people I know way way over pack for camping trips.

Strongly suggest you carefully check over the trailer wiring, probably replace tires, and re-grease the hubs/bearings. Other than a blow out nothing ruins a trip faster than an overheating wheel bearing, especially if you don't catch it before major damage has been done.

I am def going to check all that. Seller says he's taken care of those things but will still look for myself.

I'm guessing you'll be well over the 20 sq/ft frontal area limit?

The truck itself hides a lot of the frontal area of the trailer but I'll be taking it easy no mountains or huge hills mostly flat land.

Going to keep gear to the absolute essentials only. Not my first rodeo with a travel trailer and have been looking to get back into it. Won't be any stupid long trips nor any mounta

Sorry my math stunk there. Lol. The trailer is listed empty as 500kg which is only 1,100lbs not 1,200lbs. Won't be carrying much water tank is only five gallon full propane tanks are another 120lbs or so. That'll leave me leeway for gear and I'll still keep below 1,500lbs total weight to be on the safe side. Mostly short trips are planned. No mountains or long stretches of up and down hills around me it's pretty flat in S. Ontario.

Frontal area affects the towing ability mre than everyone realizes. I never really thought about it . It wasn't a factor with every truck I've ever owned. I just towed my toys back this weekend from lake. 20' tritoon, 4x8 inclosed motorcycle trailer , 18' checkmate v8 IO.and 13.5' funfinder camper. It's a 80 mile trip each way. Each time up I got 28 29mpg. 3000lbs Pontoon got 12.5mpg. The 4x8 didn't even know it was there. The 3000lbs checkmate I got 24mpg. And the 3000lbs funfinder got 13.0mpg. My last trip back My friend in his 23 F550 crewcab was towing his 12k escavator on a flat bed. And he got 15mpg.

We started towing this with a PriusV last weight in was 1150# worked a lot better when it went up and down but I'm tired of working on it, set up is pretty fast now.

Ah, a Lucy n Desi trailer.
Be sure to select Tow Mode when you do tow.
Have fun.

Tangent: thinking of getting an aftermarket tow package installed on my 24 hybrid XL. Would I still use the same limitations e.g., 2k lbs, as if it were a standard package?

Some campgrounds won't accept campers over 10 years old.
