Random Double Honk - Why? And how to turn it off?

Honk on mislock - interesting.
I have the occasional random double horn honk also. Rare, but annoying, and even more annoying to my neighbors when I come home from the night shift at 5:30 AM. They don't want to hear any horns and neither do I.

I'll look into this "horn on mislock' thing and see if that works. WTH is a mislock anyway? I mean, it's either locked or its not.

A mislock is when you push the button, fob, keypad, door handle, etc and for some reason a door won't lock( not completely shut., hood not completely shut, key in ignition, fob is inside truck, truck is running while not in park with electric brake not set...etc....

This just happened to me last night. It has only happened two or three times total. I will watch closely how i exit from now on!

Mine randomly does it too and I have not figured out why.

One of my theories is, getting out of the truck "too fast" maybe opening the door right as I kill ignition or opening the door before I unbuckle my seatbelt maybe. Or just some random electrical glitch but I hate it.

Mine is an xlt so keyed ignition vs OP's push button.

Well - it's purpose is to inform you that although you just think you locked the truck up - you missed something and it didn't happen somewhere.

Wouldn't call that nanny state - but aggravated customers complaining prior to change.

Same as double-press on all-lock on fob makes a honk, people want to be assured it really locked, if the lights and sound of latches isn't enough.

I've not heard if tailgate lowered causes same reaction as hood unlatched. Probably not considered as serious so not done then.

The double press on the key fob is Ok - if you're already 100 feet from the car and want to be sure you locked it, without slowing down to turn and look, just double-press and you'll hear it. Also could come in handy at, say, Home Depot where the exit door is not the same as the entrance door, and you forget where you parked.

But the car warning about some non-existent problem or meaningless problem is an annoyance. But at least it can be disabled, apparently. I'll check mine today when I can pry myself away from the computer.

3 kids get out of back seat, rushing to start of theater in the park show to meet family there, chairs & cooler from bed grabbed, kids rounded up, given carry assignments, key double locked as walking away.
Everything left in back seat, the kids distraction tablets, other stuff in front seat all stolen - because the passenger back door wasn't caught as being open in the rush to get going.
Wanderers in the parking lot took advantage.

It's an option to disable if you don't care or unlikely to effect you, but at least it's there for what I'd suggest is hardly non-existent or meaningless problem - interesting what can be seen when you watch in a parking lot for 10 min to see how many families could benefit from something like this.

So the adult in the situation didn't check that the doors were locked? Not that the thief wouldn't have just broken out the window as they did to my friend's Mazda a few weeks ago (along with 5 or 6 other cars parked nearby) and steal what they wanted.

Not quite sure how the horn beeping twice when the door was opened would have prevented the situation you describe anyway. I mean, I pull into the garage, put it in park, shut off the engine, and open the door. Once in a while, it beeps twice for no apparent reason (supposedly a Mislock, but that isn't really spelled out anywhere on the vehicle, and is meaningless in such a situation anyway).

How did we ever survive the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s without these "features"?

Double honk after you think you pressed the button might have warned them.
I tested my Rav4 after seeing some of the extra settings/features/non-features on the Mav.
Surprised it gave the lock complete beep when back door not actually closed.
That explains the few times I had dead/low battery from son not closing back door & me missing the light on.

I thought I tested for double-honk on MY24 hybrid and it didn't seem to work right. Because it sure didn't double-honk or prevent front door lock when I jumped out & it was running. Now that would be a good protective feature, with perhaps a disable routine if purposeful.

In my opinion the sheer quantity of chimes and beeps and honks and visual warning messages has gotten way out of hand. Some you can't even tell what they are for, at least not at first glance (hence this OP). And I'm likely not the only one feeling this way.

The truck chimes when it is ready to drive AND provides a warning message on the dash. It chimes when a door is left open AND provides a warning message on the dash. It warns on the screen when the parking brake goes on, and when it goes off PLUS it has a red warning light on the dash. When making changes to the drive mode you have to wait or click certain message windows away before you can even see what drive mode you're selecting. It chimes when you leave the lights on when exiting (=useful), but then doesn't provide a visual warning what that chime is for. And it may coincide with a double honk for leaving the vehicle running OR a double honk for a mis-lock or who knows what else..

So here we have this random double honk that I couldn't identify, and I still may not have! Time will tell if it comes back after changing one setting.

Without making this into a major deal (because it truly isn't in the grand scheme of life) I have learned to live with it, but begrudgingly.

And beside the annoyance, there's a MAJOR downside to this deluge of audible and visual warnings and informational messages in the vehicle (and in life in general!): people, including myself, will be MUCH more likely to ignore actual important warnings you need to act on to prevent damage or danger.

And this is not limited to the Maverick: our 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid does it too but to a lesser extent. There are fewer warning screens (probably because the vehicle platform is a bit older), but at times there are beeps that it makes in the cabin that I truly have no idea what they are for. What good is that?
