As I stated in my original post: bumping SOC target level to 100% using Forscan plus replacing the FLA battery with an AGM battery solved it completely on my end. Zero unexpected deep sleeps or warnings in now 18 months since I installed that battery. Now it will only go to sleep after sitting...
@EffNo50
About that panic button on the fob:
Ignore this post if you knew this already, but Forscan allows you to change the functionality:
- Require a double press of the panic button. (which is what I set mine to => No more accidental honking 👍).
- turn off the horn (so panic mode only...
@AVC
I changed my Hybrid's 5W-30 oil this last weekend after some 7,000 miles and put fresh Kirkland 5W-30 in it again.
If I remember I may do an oil analysis next go around, just for giggles. I'll share it here if I do.
Some notes:
1) My 2.5 simply runs smoother with 5W-30, especially when...
Just putting a $135 AGM battery in there seems to fix 90% of this issue. Reports are you might still have a very occasional deep sleep. That's probably fine for most owners.
In addition: I also changed SOC setting in Forscan from 80 to 100%.
My Hybrid hasn't reported deep sleep in over a year...
Based on when you joined the forum here I guess you may have a 2022 Hybrid and I'd have the dealer check for the loose battery cable eyelet issue that affected a good number of 2022's (including mine).
Symptom: a suddenly completely dead 12V battery. Mine was showing 3V or so. Jumping the truck...
@Dcooke35
My own 2022 truck has the new $135 AGM and I updated the SOC to 100%. I put on 28,000 miles since the AGM install 15 months ago. I have had essentially zero deep-sleeps. So on mine the issue is completely resolved. (y)
I never drove the truck with the AGM and SOC set to just 80%...
About EPA "mandating" 0W-20 in modern engines:
I'm just guessing here, but likely EPA doesn't mandate certain oil specifications, that should be up to the vehicle manufacturers. And that likely is the case.
However, as mentioned above by other forum members: manufacturers must meet CAFE fuel...
In light of this discussion, here's a YouTube video that landed a few days ago by "The Motor Oil Geek" (Lake Speed, Jr.) who is reported to have extensive expertise in lubrication.
Cheers!
@Mervin the Maverick
This is just by memory from over a year ago: if I recall correctly, the Uplus comes with two vent ports, one on each side. One side you use for the vent hose with the OEM vent fitting. The other side will get a blank plug to close it.
@GreyCacti
There are two possibly causes for a double honk that I know of, but considering these newer vehicles honk and beep for almost anything there's likely even more situations :rolleyes:
1) Double honk AFTER exiting the truck with the ignition still on / engine still running. So...
@Pstewone
That Orion DC-DC charger in our little camp trailer is the non-smart one, so I have to turn it on and off somehow.
Originally, I had added a voltage sensing circuit ($6 on Amazon!) that has a relay output and that you could set to a certain "RELAY ON" voltage, and then another...
@Area51BS
I had the same problem. Couldn't figure out why, until someone on this forum mentioned:
Disable "mislock chirp". It is in the vehicle settings menu on the gauge cluster. (Menu->Vehicle->Locks)
So:
It appears the problem is that, usually when in a hurry, when putting your hand...
@glohworm
That's interesting. I've been trying to come up with a reason why you saw this behavior, and so far I cannot come up with any. And I understand this system pretty well by now.
A bad AGM battery, which I still don't think you're dealing with here, would not make that really powerful...
@glohworm
I'll refer to my original writeup from one year ago on this issue. It is linked in the first post on this thread here.
Your Uplus AGM battery is almost certainly perfectly fine.
What you are witnessing (voltage dropping to 12.8-ish Volt while driving is NORMAL. Nothing is wrong...
@JPinMD
That main battery cable runs from the battery (under the rear seats) forward to the main fuse block located under the hood on the driver side inboard of the left front wheel.
The eyelet on that end of the cable is bolted to the fuse block, but is essentially barely connected to the...
@JPinMD
That cable under the hood issue is a loose eyelet, essentially disconnecting the 12V battery from the truck. That eyelet/ring terminal is soldered to the main battery cable (not crimped!) with a poor solder joint (=Ford supplier bad QC). My '22 had it too, I kept it going for a long...
@CurtisB
My bad, sorry! Somehow I thought you had gone the H4/Group 140R route, even though you never said so.
So with your H5 you still get the occasional deep sleep, while some others report none with an H5.
That may have to do with different use scenarios then?
Anyway, I update my second...
I have a Lomax Stance, which I think is essentially the same one, with the added feature that it can stand vertically behind the can so you have full access to the bed without removing the whole thing.
After three years I still think it is a superb cover: sturdy (all aluminum construction)...
Here's what I think the issue is (just thinking out loud):
Ford obviously needs to comply with all applicable regulations: NTSB, EPA, etc.
I would think that they cannot make changes to already US certified vehicles that lower for instance fuel economy.
So, they chose the (weird) 60-80% SOC...
