I wonder how much this would have lessened the impact and damage?
20241007_090118.jpg
very little is my guess. the force is going somewhere, and it's into the hitch which then goes right into those frame rails with the pre-dented boron steel. which then crumple.

that thing could help 5-10 mph but at 30+ mph impact I bet it's no help or actually worse than nothing.

Hard to believe, but I suspect they were on their phone. Shocking, I know.
Yeah for some people it's a matter of when they're not on their phone. Anytime I see someone driving slow and a little erratic, I'll look as I'm going by and they almost always have there phone in hand.

Did you actually go to their website and watch the testing video?
For what it's worth MGA Research did the 30 mph certification testing.
Their SuperBumper has a ball mount.

In late August, I was rear-ended while sitting at a stoplight. I wasn't hurt, but the crumple zones did their jobs and sacrificed themselves. I got notified that it was totaled last week. 8900 miles. Once the insurance wrangling is done, it's off to Dovi Motors in Cortland, NY to order a '25. I only wish that Cyber Orange was still available!

The good news is you’re getting a new truck, versus having frame related damage on your CarFax, which would be a HUGE hit to your truck’s resale value.
And the bad news is your insurance is going to double. So make sure you thank the texting fool who hit you.

Damn, Being that these trucks total easily from the insurance. I would have tried to work it out with the guy who hit you. Hey buddy I won’t call insurance and you can try to foot 80% of this issue.
I tried that once, didnt work out at all. Did it again on my Mav and instead of going to the $2,000 estimate. Went to the dent guy and $300.00. Not perfect but 99.9%. I'm not sure I would go that way, that could be thousands and the guy that hit you, bet he aint got it.

Once the insurance mess is over, I'll post the estimate information.

Seems like you experienced the situation I was talking about with my comments in post #3
I am guessing they were fairly accurate.

The "sparebumper" actually has internal and external "shock absorption". Some of the force goes into deforming and heating them up. I have one on my Mav. after being rear ended at a stop sign ($1500 in damage). It was the product reviews with accident scene photos that sold me more than the manufacturers claims. My biggest worry is an off-center hit that induces a torque on the hitch receiver. We'll see when it's eventually "tested" haha.

Where did you find the information about testing from MGA? I couldn't find anything on their site.

We're at a point where there is enough tech on our vehicles that if someone is approaching in a way that looks like it's gonna be an impact, there should be an audible warning too (for them) and not just brake lights. Someone looking at their phone would at least hear an audible warning. They aren't going to see brake lights.
a modern Subaru with Eyesight would've stopped in time.

Right here👇
Ah, I just needed to look harder. Thank you.
I emailed Mohr Manuf to see if they will provide the report from that testing. I might contact MGA as well. I'm curious as to the results, and if they measured G's inside the vehicle.
