I would stick with whatever came with the truck when new. The early windshields on the Lariat, came with heated wipers and soundproofing, ($1300) to replace. You will have to pay the difference to upgrade. Check with Safelite for a cost.Any suggestions on which company to use? Do you think it would be better to get the soundproofed windshield?
Thx
Wow.. sounds like safelite has a bad franchisee on their hands. Not Safelite
They chipped the paint on my maverick. They swore their tools couldn't do that. Then they said it was Ford's bubbling paint. I said "surely you have before picks" and they said they weren't detailed enough in that area. So I showed them my before picks, they finally accepted responsibility.
Then the windshield leaked. I scheduled to wait while they repair it. When I get there for the appointment, they say they don't schedule specific times for warranty and just squeeze them in throughout the day. I wasted hours of my time. I'll never use them again.
I didn't trust them to repair the paint and instead negotiated them covering my deductible.
Definitely check cost. When I was at my local auto glass service company to have a rock chip serviced with about 3 cracks longest about 3/32" about 2 hours after the impact (lariat with heated, soundproof asked and was told that sound proof were quiet common and were not that much more. I did not get a price and did not ask about the heat strip. I do notice a definite improvement sound wise between my lariat and XLT.I would stick with whatever came with the truck when new. How hot was it???I really think mine cracked from a hot day, I think the black fritting is where it heats up and cracks from the edge toward the middle. I don't see an impact near or along the crack at all and it was fine until I left it parked on a hot day and came back to a cracked windshield.
Not as hot as these past couple days, but the reflective windshield dash cover might have created an oven effect or heated up the black edge fritting from the inside. Maybe there was an impact that prompted the crack, but I don't feel anything with my fingernail. How hot was it???![]()
We have had some hot days here in Nevada. Not as hot as these past couple days, but the reflective windshield dash cover might have created an oven effect or heated up the black edge fritting from the inside. Good to know, thank you. My sun shade was the hoop type that sits close to the glass and fill sin all the edges as it is specific to the Maverick. I won't use it again, or I'll just lay it across the dash next time after getting the glass replaced. The glass was fine when I parked and I came back to a big crack from the passenger side edge to the center. Could have been an impact and the heat that did it.We have had some hot days here in Nevada.
I use a reflective style sun shade everyday. In July, I took a ride out to Furnace Creek Death Valley it was 129°
No windshield cracking.
It definitely is not an everyday occurrence.
Keep us updated when you find out what happened.
Good luck.
I got a chip in my windshield on the way back from the Grand Canyon on the 4th of July. Luckily before it turned into a large crack Safelite was able to repair it.Such a crappy club to be in, shouldn't even exist in my opinion but sadly it does.
