a small, affordable AWD van (especially with 4k tow rating and similar ground clearance to the Maverick) would be awesome!
if it were available now, i would definitely buy one over the Maverick.
if it has similar towing and off-road capability, a cargo van has better overall utility than a pickup for keeping things locked inside. (after my Maverick order arrives,) i'm planning on removing the rear seats and perhaps also the front passenger seat to make more interior room for cargo and supplies when traveling. the pickup bed does have some benefits, like being able to carry dirty things (like extra fuel cans, spare tires for the trailer, recovery equipment, etc), however for the most part, having the cargo area enclosed is much more useful for my needs (and would also allow one to easily camp / sleep inside the van).
i used to have a long wheelbase Transit Connect and it was a nice little van to drive around. perhaps the new van based on the Maverick platform will be a little longer to match the Maverick length.. this would give it enough room to carry a whole 4x8 sheet of plywood inside.
another thing that's much nicer about a van than a pickup truck is the better view out of the windshield. i recall test driving full size trucks and feeling crammed inside, when in the Transit Connect (or full size Transit) it felt like there was a lot of room above my head and i could see much more of the sky out the windshield, which made for a much nicer driving experience than a truck with a narrower angle of view out the windshield. (this is one of the reasons i didn't test drive a full size Bronco.. after sitting inside one, it felt super crammed with the very tiny / narrow windshield.. yes, the top can be removed for an open air experience, but when it's on, it's not going to be a pleasant driving experience)
