I am still about two months away from getting my Maverick, so I got nothing to do but think about it.

What do up wish you had known or someone had told you before you got your Maverick? Any unexpected surprises?

Your gear ratio if you have the fx4 or 2k tow package you get 3.63 gears if you have the 4K tow package you get 3.81 gears which is ironically the same gearing as a Nissan titan

OP, you will get mostly fanboy comments here, so I'll concentrate on the negatives. Don't misread that - I've had my 22 XLT AWD ECO LUX HPR for two years now and I'm satisfied with it. I don't kiss the bumpers each morning like some of the more rabid fanboys on MTC, but it's been an OK utility daily ride so far. And I use the bed plenty for a lot of gardener hauling.

What I wish I'd been told by reviewers...

  1. It ain't small. It's 3 inches longer than a Kia Telluride. It has a boat-like turning radius compared to my old Ranger 2 door. Hint: there are whole threads on MTC where fanboys and skeptics have flame wars over whether or not the Maverick is a small truck.
  2. The EcoBoost transmission hunts a lot. It really annoyed me the first month, and then I just tuned it out.
  3. Stop-Start is the worst EPA compliance feature ever invented by man. It's another thing I tuned out.
  4. Reliability is something you'll always be thinking about. Especially if you buy a hybrid.
  5. The stock tires suck. I'm getting ready to drop $1,000 on some Michelin Defender 2 tires because the stock tires are almost gone in two just years of gentle use (27,000 miles).
  6. The pre-2025 MY tech sucks. NA if you're getting a 2025 or later.
  7. No passenger power seat.
  8. I call the LUX the "not luxury basic modern car stuff they didn't put in to meet a price point".
  9. The horrible quality control across the fleet. Massive recalls (I missed all but two, which I'll never have done). Just horror story after horror story by hybrid owners about their vehicles dying in the middle of interstates, multi-month visits to the shop, axles, etc). I'm not saying pass on the Maverick, I'm just saying I wish Ford had added to their advertising "It's cheap because it's cheap". And that they'd added to their "we developed it a year faster than usual" boasting back in 2022 the phrase "so you get to do that last year of development testing we skipped for us".
OK, that's what I wish somebody had told me before I bought mine. Just so I'd be expecting those things.

Reminder - none of this would have changed my decision to buy a Maverick. And I'm satisfied with the thing. I felt I got my money's worth for $30,500 OTD - I wasn't expecting reliability or high quality or content. But I do hope another automaker releases an even smaller trucklet before I replace mine.

Somewhat well known: If your dealer honors X-plan pricing and you're willing to wait three months, or even if you already ordered but it takes longer than three months to come in, you can join Mustang Club of America today for $35 to get X-plan pricing and save somewhere between $800 and $1500.

What I didn't know: The X-plan will also get you Ford extended warranty pricing at significantly less than you can get it even from Granger, but it's only available when you purchase the vehicle and you have to specifically ask for it. Dealerships aren't required to offer it to you unless you ask and will almost always push their own third-party, highly marked up warranty instead.

I had poured over Order Guides, User Manuals for MY2022, MY2023, MY2024 and followed these forums for a long time before ordering my Maverick. I literally was surprised by nothing. Educated myself, so knew exactly what I was getting into, warts and all.

Wait there was one thing... The power output of the B&O stereo was reduced between MY2023 and MY2024.. So that surprised me. However, my wife and I agree, the stereo is good enough, so we aren't fretting it. I'd like to see if the Sync3 APIM can be swapped out for the Sync4 APIM while leaving the existing 8" entertainment screen (I don't feel like cutting the dash up to fit a larger one).... I just want wireless Android and the better performance of the system.

On the hybrid a stong head or crosswind will absolutely tank the mileage. On a 180 mile trip from Duluth to my home I saw the instant mpg average readout start at 40+ or so and head down to as low as 19.

Not a "fanboy", but come on. Difficult for a manufacturer to predict recalls. I doubt they knew about them and just decided to go ahead with production and lets see what happens. Could Ford have done a better job of quality control? Monday morning quarterbacking says of course.
Hybrids dying in the middle of interstates is scary, but really, a rarity.
Agree about the Connie tires. Mine came with the Michelins and they're doing fine after 2 1/2 years.
What's so troubling about the pre-25 tech? What's there works well, but I'd love to have the bird's eye view offered with the 2025.

Appreciated reading your opinions

I agree with you completely another thing. You also have to understand about the auto industry. you never buy a first or second year model As that's when they are working the kinks out of them and trust me, i'm speaking from experience in the industry.. With that being said, my 24 tremor I have 16761 miles on it, Had it since December of last year and I've had 0 issues with it.I love the truck. I've had everything from f350 Super duties f150s navigators And just about every other ford vehicle made under the sun in the last thirty years.. All vehicles have problems doesn't matter what manufacture. But I would just avoid the early years imo

I've had zero problems with my 2023 Tremor. I absolutely love the truck. My only complaint is I don't think I have ever been satisfied with the driver's seat position. I have the XLT Luxury Pkg. I'm 5'10, 180 lbs. I've had S5-L1 lumbar surgery, so it may be me and not the seat.

I wish someone would have said "you're going to hate the rotary shifter. After 3 years, you're going to hate it even more"

The only thing I don't like about my 2024 Lariat are the adjustable headrests. It is far too easy to pull them forward but not return them back. You have to get out and reset the angle which is now too far forward. I know, it is a situation like, "don't hit your finger with that hammer" but someone borrowed the truck, fooled around with the headrest and I jumped in to drive somewhere (which included almost immediately getting on the freeway) and had this great lump sticking into my noggin.
I know, cheap car and all. I'm used to being able to hit a switch and make these adjustments with a flick of the finger.

and this would have made you choose a different vehicle to purchase, or it would have prepared you better for disappointment? 🤔

I wish someone had told me how much buying a new vehicle sucks. 🤣 I've always bought used before, let some other sucker eat the new vehicle price, but I was a sucker and went for it. Not that you can get a used Maverick for much less than MSRP, so it wouldn't save much, other than the hassle of buying from a dealership. The only nice thing about buying new is that I know someone didn't rag on it and I have the complete vehicle service history.
