I know there is a lot of Toyota fanboys on here, for some crazy reason, but aside from the microcosm of Hawaii I never once considered Toyota trucks on any throne, at least in America. They are uncomfortable, expensive, too big and somehow too small at the same time. Styling is subjective but they haven't really looked good for 20 years. Ford on the other hand has made the toughest trucks in America since the dawn of time.
When Toyota trucks first showed up in the U.S. 50 years ago we used to call them Toy Wagons. The Datsuns were puppy trucks.

Things have changed a lot over the years - the Toyota Tacoma is a competitor, but more in the Ranger class than the Maverick class. The Mav is smaller, more economical, and just not the same creature.

The folks saying the Taco and Mav are not comparable need to read the piece better.
They are not trying to say they are comparable, they are simply talking about the best selling pickup truck in America.

Well I guess nobodys perfect, but they're better then Ford. I don't own any Toyotas. I buy American!
Congratulations! Our Mavericks and Toyota Tacoma's are both made in Mexico! Tacoma's made there since 2021. I believe the engines and maybe drive train still made in Alabama. Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat and Jeep all owned by Stellantis headquartered in Hoofddorp, Netherlands. Many of these brands are made in Mexico.

Yup! I wanted a 1974 Toyota or Datsun pickup, but wifey and I had just got married year before and I was in the Army. As in, low cash mode! So we bought Datsun B210, 1188cc engine 4 speed, roll down windows, AM radio. I had a motorcycle with a bigger and more powerful engine than that. Drove that thing for many years, about 215,000 miles. Replaced a heater core, that was all. Good reliable little car that got 38 MPG. I would not wanted to be in an accident in it though! Haha. There are a lot of cars today that can't get 38 mpg! We have come a long way... Sort of.

The Tacoma became popular because it was a small truck. It ain't small now.

Laughable. Tacoma is not small.
Maverick is #1 selling small truck in America.
They probably forgot to include the small print:

"Small truck" is defined as any body on frame truck defined as not larger than the Tacoma in any dimension or viewpoint and contains the letters T-A-C-O-M-A in that specific order. These terms and conditions may be changed by Toyota without notice. Any corrections should be reported to [email protected].

The article states the above. The article needs to be written better.
Ranger is the class competitor with Tacoma.
Yeah but it also says "It's worth noting that these two trucks aren't necessarily in the same segment. The Tacoma is a midsize truck, while the Maverick is a compact or small truck."

I agree it needs to be written better, but its still simply talking about best selling.
