I've used both in my lariat. I have no preference to be honest, they both have provided accurate directions for me which is all I care about.

Well, I just started (as of yesterday) using Waze. Why? Well, I like the accuracy of Apple maps and had used it quite a bit, but the secondary roads are really hard to see. It's like they're almost "grayed" out. I don't always use the map for navigation to a specific place - sometimes, I just drive out somewhere and want to see, at a glance and without stopping, where a side road might take me.

Too soon to tell if I like Waze or not, but so far, so good. I'll give it a better test next week when I'm off work and have time to do some travelling.

Like all other navigation aids and GPS systems, i immediately turned off all the voice instructions. Nobody likes a nag.

Waze hands-down.
Waze is Google, but I do hear it's good for dealing with heavy traffic and accidents.

To answer the OP's original question, I typically use Google maps, but I don't use GPS very often, maybe a few times a year.

The thing I don’t like about Waze is that it wont show you the speed limit unless either you exceed or match it exactlly.

Maverick XL allows CarPlay maps on the screen? My XL doesn’t seem to. I even have to have audio on for Siri to spit out directions over Mav’s audio.

All Maverick trims have Carplay, and thus maps on screen. Don't know if it will let you do it if you are already driving though, think you have to be in park to start using it.

Well Google does own Waze now but they are quite different.

Waze is more focused on crowdsourcing data from other drivers — and relying on them to keep things up to date. Waze is also famous for how aggressively it can be in trying to speed up your trip, which is part of the reason it's so popular.

The information re what is going on around you is significant. Here in Canada I find it much better.
