This is why I am always looking in all directions while driving, even when I'm stopped. Always leaving room in-front of me for instances like this where I see someone flying up behind me and I can move over (but also for emergency responders too).

Dashcam sas 7/5/24 and that article is from 7/6/23. so not saying its wrong, jsut that it doesnt jive.
I would agree. Never said it was accurate, but the article was posted at 8:24 am on 7/6, and the dash cam time shows 1:54 pm on 7/5, so it is possible it was delayed and didn't make the news until the situation was investigated.

This is why my 4 way flashers come on as soon as a highway jams up, until a couple cars behind me stop.

There is a huge amount of stored energy in a spare tire, a blowout can have the same force as a hand grenade. No one should ever forget that tires are a pressure vessel and contain ridiculous amounts of potentially violent energy.
I don't doubt that the spare tire bursting added some drama to an already horrible collision.
I've seen a truck tire blow out next to a guy at 120+ PSI, and yes that is violent. 35 PSI, not so much.

Per the second video, here are the coordinates at the bottom of the dash cam.

Those coordinates are almost spot on. gmaps puts it on a service road next to I-4 but thats still maybe 50' away from the accident spot.

I've seen a truck tire blow out next to a guy at 120+ PSI, and yes that is violent. 35 PSI, not so much.
It is one reason I try not to hang out near Semis on the road. Sure odds are good it isn't going to explode near me.

Getting rear-ended while stopped is my #1 biggest worry when I'm driving. I had a near-miss many years ago in my 1985 El Camino and if the lane next to me hadn't been empty that night, I may not have survived. I saw the car coming up behind me was going too fast and I scooted one lane over. He came to a screeching halt in the same amount of space I had been occupying...

There's a combo effect of the Mav being pushed into and rear ending one vehicle while being wedged from behind by the other. The spare tire would possibly cause some added help but it would have to blow against something in a directed stream like a jet engine.

There's a combo effect of the Mav being pushed into and rear ending one vehicle while being wedged from behind by the other. The spare tire would possibly cause some added help but it would have to blow against something in a directed stream like a jet engine.
The serrated blade designed directs the directed stream to push the tire towards the rear bumper mainly to keep the tire out of the rear seat area. With the bed already traveling up in this case the additional air pressure would although relatively small would add to the rising of the bed. This wreck is a vote to be sure the spare is fully inflated at all times and is a biggie reason those removing the serrations to get a larger tire under their truck need to NOT bend or cut the rupture teeth away.
