SUBJECT: Customer Satisfaction Program 23N06 Certain 2021-2022 Model Year Corsair, 2020-2022 Model Year Escape and 2022- 2023 Model Year Maverick Vehicles Equipped With 2.5L HEV/PHEV Engine Long Block Replacement REF : NEW VEHICLE DEMONSTRATION / DELIVERY HOLD - Safety Recall 23S27 Dated April 25, 2024

PROGRAM TERMS For vehicles that are outside of normal powertrain warranty, this program provides a one-time replacement (if needed) free of charge (parts and labor) of the engine long block assembly for 10 years or 100,000 miles from the warranty start date of the vehicle, whichever occurs first. If a vehicle has already exceeded either the time or mileage limits, this no-cost repair will last through July 31, 2025. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners.

VEHICLES COVERED BY THIS PROGRAM Vehicle Model Year Assembly Plant Build Dates Corsair 2021-2022 Louisville October 24, 2019 through December 14, 2022 Escape 2020-2022 January 09, 2019 through December 15, 2022 Maverick 2022-2023 Hermosillo February 3, 2021 through May 18, 2023 US population of affected vehicles: 124,902. Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS.

REASON FOR PROVIDING A NO-COST, ONE-TIME REPAIR In some of the affected vehicles, after safety recall 23S27 has been performed, the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) may illuminate and store Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P1061 and/or P032F. This could be due to a faulty connecting rod bearing that was detected by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). SERVICE ACTION If an affected vehicle exhibits this condition, dealers are to follow Workshop Manual (WSM) diagnostics for the DTCs P1061 and/or P032F. If these DTCs are present and diagnostics lead to engine replacement, dealers are to replace the long block assembly. This service must be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner.

And it is very important to note that this is restricted to two specific DTC's: P1061 and/or P032F.

If you are having engine troubles, or CEL is on, and it is not related to one of those DTC's, there will not be extended coverage. Many people gloss over that part of the of the FSA!

I'm trying to understand your point. Are you suggesting there should be extended coverage for other engine troubles?

No, I'm just saying that many people won't pay attention to the details, and they'll bring their Maverick into service department for unrelated CEL/ engine problems, and expect it to be covered under this program, when this extended coverage FSA is just for a very specific failure.

The fact this exists makes me nervous.

Very interesting post. I always wondered what the recall update for 23S27 did, and it appears they implemented some specific diagnostics. I do not see either of those codes listed in the Master DTC Chart of the Service Manual for the 2023 model year. Does anyone have the description for them?

So are you saying if the Maverick's have a major engine failure it’s covered by Ford after factory warranty?
There was a period of time where Ford noted bearing issues. This is a good assurance that if you got one with bad bearings, you will be covered. My 2023 falls into this time window, my 2024 does not.

I think this was the subject of an earlier notice with no solution. IIRC, this issue was really the basis of the active shutter vane removal to help prevent fires caused by folks coninuing to drive when they had literally thrown a rod and were leaking oil as they continued (for a short while) under electric power, spewing more oil into the area to catch fire. Hard for me to believe that you could throw a rod and not notice....
The extension of the power train warranty for this reason is a good thing...but I doubt there will actually be a need for many block replacements. Good for Ford for acknowledging the narrow issue.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTCDescriptionFault Trigger Condition
PCM P032F:00Combustion Engine Producing Insufficient Torque: No Sub Type InformationThis DTC sets when the actual engine torque falls below expected torque for a calibrated amount of time. The DTC indicates potential mechanical failure of internal engine components. The engine is disabled if this DTC is set. The instrument cluster will display "Stop Safely Now" with triangle light.
Possible Causes

  • Mchanical failure of internal engine components
  • Higher than expected parasitic losses in the engine
  • Lack of combustion

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTCDescriptionFault Trigger Condition
PCM P1061:00Excessive Engine Component Deterioration - Forced Limited Engine Speed: No Sub Type InformationSets when the PCM detects the knock control system (KCS) voltage exceeds a maximum value greater than a calibrated number of times within a set time period when a mechanical noise is present. Engine performance may be limited to protect the engine if this DTC is set.

Base engine concerns, abnormal mechanical noise, RF or electromagnetic interference in the knock control system, a damaged knock sensor or PCM may set this code.
Possible Causes

  • Mchanical failure of internal engine components
  • Higher than expected parasitic losses in the engine
  • Lack of combustion
  • Wiring , terminals or connectors

As I read, it appears that if you had to have 23s27 recall done and if you did it then subsequently get either or both the DTC codes then you qualify for dealer to further diagnose and actually verify that the exact failure has actually occured before the long block can be replaced. Both my current Mavs had the 23s27 performed. Hopefully the Everytime truck is started the DTC's are reported to Ford (just in case they disappear before a dealer visit). Maybe those are semi permanently set and must be reset by dealer.
What would be impressive would be a pop up that said "you have possibly won a free long block drive straight to the dealer of your choice for verification".

Seems like this is something to revisit after 9 years 11 months or 99,000 miles of ownership
