Update Day 3 - Spoke to service tech at the dealership who said it was throwing codes that indicated they would have to replace the Transmission. The warehouse has some in stock but they have been on backorder so people with previous orders will get priority. He isn't sure if he'll be able to get one of the ones in stock but will try. Even if he can get one it will take 5-7 days to arrive and then he has 4 other transmission jobs in front of me. I am looking at about a month before it is done. He cannot give me a loaner because we would be traveling out of state. He said to contact Ford and they should cover rental but mentioned that something they are not good about making clear is that Ford will only reimburse if you rent a Ford Vehicle and they only reimburse $40/Day.

Wish me luck finding a Ford rental in North Florida for $40/Day

Earlier in the day I had already spoken to a Ford "Proactive Customer Dealer Advocate" who told me he was going to call the dealership and workout either a loaner or rental. But the Service guy said he had not heard from him and didn't have any voicemails from him. I also received and email from the PCDA so replied to that asking for an update last night but have yet to hear back.

I'm very sorry to hear that update, yet I'm very glad that you were able to get it in to be diagnosed and you didn't get stranded at the roadside.

Surprised the Ford Wonder Man on here hasn't jumped in and solved this for you.

Update Day 4-5: was finally contacted by PCDA, Ford will reimburse us for flights home and Uber from airport to home, will ship truck to dealer in Texas nearest me once repaired and provide a rental or loaner while it’s in the shop once we get back home. I have to pay up front but am told I will be reimbursed. Glad they are doing all that but Still, it will at least a month, plus 5-6 days to ship. Assuming they can get a transmission from the warehouse right away. I’d rather have my truck and not have to worry about how long it’s going to last.

I know this sucks but outside looking in, Ford is being incredibly reasonable with you. I'm actually quite impressed with their willingness to help you get home and ship the vehicle back.

It's a crummy situation but this is about the best one can hope for given the circumstances IMO.

Can't really fault ford here since they are doing everything they can at this point, except on the original reliability issue. Hope it works out well for you.

I'm kind of in the same boat - Fords have left me stranded a few times over the years and at this point I needed 100% reliability to gain trust in the vehicle.

The recalls don't bother me but since day one, my trans has been occasionally grabby when cold at low speeds and of course the dealer can't really replicate the problem. They reset the trans so it would relearn but no bueno.

Gonna have them check the fluid levels in the trans and PTU next oil change, but honestly if I've been driving with low fluid for the last 20k miles the trans ain't gonna hold up long term. And if the fluid levels are fine I'm still in the same boat.

It's a shame because overall I really like the truck since the custom order process allowed me to order exactly what I wanted instead of having to scour dealerships and settle for close enough, but anything is better than being stranded.

Reminds me of my 2012 Focus automatic dual-clutch transmission. Shuttering when accelerating at low speed and occasionally got stuck in low gear. Had to bring it to the dealer for multiple computer resets (which did absolutely nothing). Had the transmission seals replaced as well (temporary improvement). In the end, they never fixed the issue. I eventually got rid of it in 2016. Two of my co-workers had the same problem. One with a Taurus and the other with a Fiesta. Sounds like the problems with Ford transmissions is widespread and has never been resolved.

That is not at all what it sounds like.

I am not sure how you arrived there based on the data in this forum, and this thread specifically.

Yikes, did he mention if those were all 8F35 jobs?

Just said transmission jobs, I’m heading there now to put some stuff in my truck. Hoping to find out if they got one on the way or not.

Sorry to hear of your issue and hope it works out to your satisfaction. I'm sure this is concerning to hear for all Ecoboost owners.
