Towing the boat with my Maverick EcoBoost

I was worried my Maverick wouldn't tow as well as my Ram Ecoboost , But wow ! It tows perfect . Lots of power to pull out of the ramp and home. It Does not strain at all ! I only tow about a half mile to the ramp. My boat and trailer are at least 4500 Lbs. and It hardly squats at all in back. If I traveled with the boat I would want a bigger truck,but it's perfect for now.

I tow my 16’ car trailer with my car and gear all over. It’s a very impressive little truck. Coming from a ram I bet you also started to pee standing up.

I think it's a very under rated truck for towing . The Santa Cruz is rated for 5K towing and looks about the same . I called a few dealers and they all said Ford under rates the towing . Like I said I wouldn't take it over the hills or on long trips. But it's a flat 1/2 mile to the launch and not a steep ramp. Honestly , it handled the boat as well as my old Ram.

i towed a RV, but chose proper truck to tow, and with adequate “payload capacity”, what it can carry, not tow.

The big issue is, in spite good towing capacities, can a tow truck stop a heavy trailer. 150 vs 250 size truck.

Same! My boat is 3100 lbs,I tow 20 miles to the ramp.it tows pretty much the same as my hemi ram. Very pleased!

Tow ratings are a voluntary (not government regulated or mandated) attribute of your truck, designed for comparison shopping.

Just like when using auto-pilot assist, adaptive cruise control, and the backing up camera, it is ALWAYS up to the driver to operate safely and this applies to towing as well.

Can you operate the Maverick safely while towing 5k? You bet. It's up to you, and a host of personal conditions that you are responsible for understanding.

You did well getting your feet wet (pun intended) on a short neighborhood trip. As you go you will build confidence to venture farther.

Some armchair quarterbacks will try to tell you something different than me.
But I challenge them to discredit the following:

You have no legal requirement to stay within the tow ratings for personal use.

You only have the obligation to tow safely. And 5,000 lbs. at 45. MPH can be done with less risk than 4,000 lbs. at 75 MPH.

I'm sure there is more than 4K pound ability (I mean Ford doesn't say you can't tow 4K up Loveland Pass which is likely more strain than this boat). However, I do think it's a question of the tail wagging the dog so be careful pulling it.

I'll tow anything ( just about) as long as the trailer has brakes. My tri-axle will stop the the truck and trailer with just the brake controller. Also you must load/ balance the trailer properly. I run about 300 to 400lbs of tongue weight.

We just took our boat out this morning for the first time with the Mav and it did a great job. A little lighter than yours, but I didn't feel any strain at all. I traded in an F150 for the Mav and I'm loving it.
