Can you believe how much oil has gone up! Just a couple years ago I bought 3 oil changes of 5 qts full synthetic and a wix filter for $18 ea. @ pep boys. My first change on mav EB was $57. Admittedly it was Mobil one, six qts and a Mobil one filter.
I found this impossible to believe.
Valvoline Advanced and Pennzoil Platinum exclusively for me. I love how 5 qts isn't enough so you have to pay an extra $10 for 1 qt.
You know, or just buy 2, 5qt to begin with instead of paying an insane amount for 1 qt. Oil doesn't have an expiration date.

Well, if the first oil change wasn't synthetic in the comparison then that's an apples to gorillas kind of deal there. I don't think $57 is bad at all for 6 quarts of fully synthetic Mobil 1 and a filter

Hybrid 2.5L oil requires spec of WSS-M2C962-A1. Known ones are:
It's also possible an ILSAC GF-6 rating would be OK, but I cannot completely confirm that. Of note, Penzoil's best oil, Penzoil Ultra Platnium, does not have the Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 rating.

Someone on BITOG did oil changes using Motorcraft 0W-20 and Motorcraft filter and wear/sample was excellent. I may just stick to Motorcraft oil from factory since I only do it once a year, although it is rather pricey, and I was wondering if there was a better non-OEM oil to choose.
bought mobil 1 0w-20 at costco - $35, paid oil change place 33 for change and filter.....good deal around here....

All of AmsOil's 0W20's including their newest Hybrid specific oil all have the Ford specs listed on them. So add that to the list as well.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum isn't listed because they sell less of it and don't pay for some of the testings to meet certain certifications, but it's the same as Pennzoil Platinum with a higher additive pack if anyone is wondering. Better for "high performance" stuff, or turbo's etc etc... I don't currently have a Hybrid but I've used it exclusively for the past 5 years.

It's the same with Amsoil. They pay for some tests but not always the certifications for every brand of vehicle that has those testers in their pockets. Amsoil also makes a Hybrid specific oil and I believe there was a post about it here once before. So if you are partial to Amsoil, you are g2g.

Just keep in mind that under warranty, they will likely test to see if it meets or exceeds said spec should an issue arise if you are doing your own changes. I think honestly you'd be hard pressed to find an oil that doesn't meet or exceed FORD's specific labeling. Do with that info what you will. When in doubt, better safe than sorry. You are not going to notice any major difference most times.
This is the correct response. That certification cost a lot of money. The payback may not be worth it. Doesn’t mean that oil does not meet or exceed those standards. It’s a cost game. If all manufacturers have a different rating than the oil company would need to pay very high cost to get those certifications when the oil the already have is vastly better than needed.
We can all name probably 5 great oil brands that are vastly better than motorcraft. But don’t have the spec even if they are better at everything.

My slow brain didn't even think about that... ugh.

lol I always buy 3 quart packages on Amazon, or at least that's what I've done for the past couple years on my oil since nobody carries it. The trick is having the space for that stuff, which a lot of people might not have if they live in Apartments or something.

Mobil 1 0W20 Extended Performance is the best option for me within this listing. I say this because:

1) I already put almost 210,000 miles on the same Ford Hybrid engine using it. (A 2010 Ford Fusion 2.5L Hybrid). Engine was still going strong at trade in time.

2) It is ExxonMobil’s flagship oil.

However, I would not hesitate to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in my Maverick Hybrid Truck if I can get my hands on it.

I also noticed that someone posted on this board recently had over 100,000 miles on recently. They were using the new Mobil 1 Hybrid 0W20 oil at 10,000 mile oil change intervals.

I went down the rabbit hole a couple weeks back.
Added a note to my Mav spreadsheet that Costco Kirkland 0w20 was A-OK.
Warren Manu. "recommends" it for the spec. That's good enough for me.

That Havoline is a good price, too and 6qts. Maybe I'll go down that route. I love how NOT often I even have to change this oil. Maybe once a year, it seems. Still not there yet.
Added, thank you.

I have never heard of them but added it!
Thank you for adding Motul and Liqui-Moly. They are expensive and probably not worth the price (especially on a hybrid) but ever since the fire recall with possible engine failure, I decided to go with Liqui-Moly Molygen for added protection. Slight peace of mind that the oil will hold up in case I do have that particular defectively built engine in my hybrid lol.

I have the EB engine and decided to go with Motorcraft full synthetic oil at 500 miles and change every 5K miles. Here is my dilemma: I am at 4500 miles on the full synthetic and it has a strong gas smell. The level is the same as when I changed it so I am guessing I lost some oil and gained some gas? I ran 2500 miles on this oil at 75mph to 80 mph on a trip to Florida. I am starting to think maybe highway driving is harder on the oil because the turbos are going at it a lot? Let me know what you guys think because I will probably do another oil change real quick.
