Back in the day we didn’t need software to tell us to pull over and shut the engine off when we heard a loud knocking and smoke rolling out from under the hood.

Same here, very happy with the truck but I haven't had any recalls done yet. Although the sleep issues are pretty annoying and more frequent, now that I've shorted my commute from 25 miles down to 3. I hope the AGM battery helps you!

I'm up to 5 recalls now!! Suppose I should make an appointment. Nearest Ford dealer is about an hour away, just a pain to coordinate that.

Different battery chemistry than a 'normal' lead-acid. Supposed to last a little longer between charges, able to be mounted in any orientation-- that makes them real popular with the jeep and motorcycle crowd. Also a lot more expensive!

Ah yes ... Just spoke to my local shop and they explained they are a sealed Gel technology, new style, and handle the modern electronics heavy vehicles better.
and ah ya .... $369 + tax for the Interstate version of the AGM for my '22 Mav Hybrid.
Costco is always a good go-to, so I looked up the AGM model for my truck, and it came back with "we don't have it"......

Don't get your hopes up - I doubt the software update fixes the engine problem. Likely all it does is make sure you don't try to keep driving when the engine creates a new inspection port. Perhaps they trigger a shutdown based on a sudden oil pressure drop. The goal being to try to prevent a fire breaking out when someone keeps driving after it happens.

This is a safety recall to prevent fires. There is no software update that will fix an engine that is destined to fail because of bad assembly or bad components. The best they can do is try to keep someone from getting killed when it lets go. And that is all NHTSA cares about.

Right now, doing the correct thing when the engine blows is voluntary, and requires someone to notice, and recognize the problem for what it is, and know what to do when it happens. The software update probably eliminates any potential for the operator to misunderstand the issue and not shut down the engine.

On the cars that need parts to effect this "fix", they probably need parts to better detect the condition when it happens and relay that info to the PCM.

That is just my hunch.

I was told by my dealer that 1% of the hybrids out there from '22-23 that are effected-meaning about a 1,110. But they don't know and it would require a new engine block which they are not doing. This all reminds me of the cheap fix they did on the pinto. That didn't go well.

That's not true. The Pinto problem is VERY exaggerated. The fix worked perfectly. Get your facts straight.
