Every Pinto had gas tanks positioned ready to blow when rear-ended.
How many hybrids actually have the mystery defect that is in question here? Probably not a large number of the total pool. They each usually generate a thread here.
The hybrid drive train warranty is very long compared to standard. The brakes get less wear and tear. Mileage speaks for itself.
If the software patch reassures drivers that they will be safe in the rare event, that is good.
The resale for an inexpensive to own little hybrid pickup will be driven by the market. As will the value of cool little ecoboosts, imo.
Had that Pinto - the tank hanger bolts were 6-8 inches long in FRONT of the fuel tank- looked like two fangs hanging down, I hack sawed them off right below the nut - apparently the engineers were trying to answer that question "how stupid can you be"

I got the same letter in the mail today. I happen to have an appointment early next week, so I'm going to see if I can have them add this on to the list of stuff to do as well.

I do find it odd that for the maverick it's just a software update but for the escape and Corsair they apparently need parts to fix the problem.
Just looking at the dealer bulletin for 23S27. Software updated for 21-22 Corsair, 20-22 Escape, & 22-23 Maverick. There will be some part replacement (and no software update) for 23 Corsair and 23 Escape. Parts are not yet available, and no additional details are provided to dealer as to what these parts will be. 3rd quarter of 2024 is when Ford estimates that the repair instructions and parts ordering details will be provided to dealers.

NOTE: Customer Satisfaction program 23N06 (to be released May 2024) will be activated on 2020- 2022 Model Year Escape, 2021-2022 Model Year Corsair and 2022-2023 Model Year Maverick vehicles, which will provide extended warranty coverage for the engine
I hope this is legit! Since the release of the recall, all I can find about Mavericks who have caught fire are mostly EcoBoost and nothing to do with a bad crankshaft so.. I'm not worried about my hybrid engine.

I was always hoping to have a free extended warranty on the engine... + the 10 year hybrid components. Yes, I'll be super happy I chose a hybrid over an EcoBoost for durability.

No details yet, but it will most likely only be extended coverage for a very specific failure, not a blanket extended warranty on engine.

Got the same letter yesterday. Problem is is that it is a physical problem with the engine block-it was mis-tooled. The software update is only to put a warning signal onto the dash to warn you of trouble. Then you need to pull over, etc. The NHSA just ruled that Ford's fix of the Bronco Sport of a similar problem was just a bandaid and NOT adequate. I predict since there is a class action suite involving the hybrid Maverick as well, they will rule this fix as inadequate too.
My Ford dealer told me that only 1% of the vehicles affected will have a problem. Fingers are crossed as nothing has happened to ours. Anyone had this issue flare up?

Waiting for the Mobile Service tech to arrive to handle this (and a different) recall. Hope the 2-for-1 goes as planned…

[Edit update] Mobile Service Tech arrived on time, plugged in & booted up the rolling computer known as a Maverick, addressed the 2 open recalls, was finished and on his way 35-minutes later.

All good!

Hard to imagine that we are now at a state of:

When the engine throws a rod due to a bad bearing and goes BANG, we have to have software added to tell the truck to shut down... instead of the driver figuring out on their own that it wasn't a normal noise and they should maybe turn it off and check things out before it catches fire.

There will be an extended warranty for the recall 23N06 which will be activated once the recall is done...no details about the warranty, as of yet, though...
NOTE: Customer Satisfaction program 23N06 (to be released May 2024) will be activated on 2020- 2022 Model Year Escape, 2021-2022 Model Year Corsair and 2022-2023 Model Year Maverick vehicles, which will provide extended warranty coverage for the engine.
Where did you obtain this information? I hope it is true but I have not seen it

The issue with Pintos was the same on many cars of that size! Not just the Pinto, I use to work in a Radiator shop, remember those? We repaired gas tanks, I pulled MANY tanks from cars of similar size, construction was similar. I

The issue wasn’t just the Pinto, it showed with it because there were literally millions built, all came down to odds! I had two Pinto’s, they were good reliable cars. Here’s a copied section from Wiki about the Pinto:
Since the 1970s, the safety reputation of the Pinto has generated controversy. Its fuel-tank design attracted both media and government scrutiny after several deadly fires occurred when the tanks ruptured in rear-end collisions. A subsequent analysis of the overall safety of the Pinto suggested it was comparable to other 1970s subcompact cars.
I worked in a Radiator Shop, we also repaired fuel tanks. Many cars I worked on were similar in construction to the Pinto. Manufacturers will always go a cheap route and hope the odds stack in their favor.

This won't surprise anyone, but when I stopped by my service department this morning to add on the recall for my appointment next week I had to explain it to the service writer. They said I wasn't eligible because when they opened up the tab for it it said parts not available. I had to have them scroll through the recall and read to them the section that said the maverick was software only and that's why it said there weren't parts available.

For a while I didn't fully understand why people where so hard on early hybrid owners. Now I understand better how this particular flaw and mitigation patch (not fix) really would leave the customer holding the bag in terms of continued risk and future cost. I guess recall to mitigate danger and insurance to mitigate $$$ loss is really the fall back here for those owners. In addition to some luck.

I would have bought a hybrid if not for combo of wait +little issues. Now I'm feeling like I dodged a bullet.
