Hard to imagine that we are now at a state of:

When the engine throws a rod due to a bad bearing and goes BANG, we have to have software added to tell the truck to shut down... instead of the driver figuring out on their own that it wasn't a normal noise and they should maybe turn it off and check things out before it catches fire.
Correct me if I am wrong but, I believe the reprograming is to use the knock sensor to monitor for telltale signs and disable the engine (or use limp mode) to greatly reduce the chance of throwing the rod in the first place. This will weed out the effected engines with greatly reduce chance of fire. I am not sure if this would then be repairable or a complete engine swap?

Waaaay back when this started, the story was that the ICE could throw a rod due to a bad bearing (produced in an unknown "but few" number of motors)...and then since the electric motor could actually keep the truck moving for a while (if the driver wasn't smart enough to park it after the big bang noise of the failed bearing), spraying oil around the hot motor, there was a fire danger, made worse by not stopping.

But then that story may be just more BS.

If so, that would indeed isolate the unlucky few before injury. Focused definitive mechanical repairs would be forthcoming and warrantied, one supposes. The great majority of owners can move along with "smoke detectors" humming. You have possibly more chance of harm flying Boeing than keeping a $19,000 '22 for the rest of the decade.

No Vin # involved? So really, what we are involved with is a type of Russian roulette.

So far lots of people playing, and no bullets yet. :) Ford's production tracking sure doesn't seem robust, could have saved them some money. They can't blame this issue on a supplier.

Cheers.

For a while I didn't fully understand why people where so hard on early hybrid owners. Now I understand better how this particular flaw and mitigation patch (not fix) really would leave the customer holding the bag in terms of continued risk and future cost. I guess recall to mitigate danger and insurance to mitigate $$$ loss is really the fall back here for those owners. In addition to some luck.

I would have bought a hybrid if not for combo of wait +little issues. Now I'm feeling like I dodged a bullet.
You did!

I got the update to the PCM and BCM to address the under hood fire and the turn signal recalls. The first thing I noticed was that the digital speed display on my Lariat is much bigger. The second thing I noticed was just how smooth the truck was.

I got one of the first ones and it had all kinds of issues with the braking and jerkiness, the last update to fix the low speed braking among other things really helped. But this update? It feels like a whole new vehicle. Gone is the bucking when accelerating at slow speeds, the occasional touchy braking and the unrefined acceleration from a stop.

I have to recommend it as it's a big upgrade for me.

The bigger speedometer display might just be your CP360 defaulted to off.

I got the same letter in the mail today. I happen to have an appointment early next week, so I'm going to see if I can have them add this on to the list of stuff to do as well.

I do find it odd that for the maverick it's just a software update but for the escape and Corsair they apparently need parts to fix the problem.
It’s amazing what software can do when it’s in integrated to change parameters. I don’t know why they don’t incorporate this to be performed by the customer on software updates on the panel center console.

Wonder if this will affect resale price on those model years when hybrid supply eases.

Hope for those of you who have it, they all fail safely within warranty.
I priced and sold my Tremor about 2 week's ago to CarMax. Two days later I got update from Carvana who had priced it $1k less for a $2800 reduction. And mine appeared on Web at asking price of $2 less than I was paid! I t apparently sold in one or two days. So prices on general must be coming down???

Waiting for the Mobile Service tech to arrive to handle this (and a different) recall. Hope the 2-for-1 goes as planned…

[Edit update] Mobile Service Tech arrived on time, plugged in & booted up the rolling computer known as a Maverick, addressed the 2 open recalls, was finished and on his way 35-minutes later.

All good!
And dealer loved getting paid for two recalls performed in 35 minutes!

Just had a check engine light show up a couple minutes before I was driving past my local Ford dealer.Took it in and they said it had something to do with the power control module and I'm scheduled for Wednesday so they can try and figure it out.
