The factory Continentals on my Maverick are terrible in 6"+ snow. Had to install chains to keep moving. Going for Blizzteks prior to next winter.
Is yours AWD? We get plenty of snow where I live in northern lower Michigan. And we are happy with the blizzacks on our fwd caravan.

As an engineer myself (I work with gas turbines)... I didn't learn anything about the Maverick's actual engineering from that video.

Neat that his 2.0 is faster off the line than the 6.2 F150, though. Really cool. Not something I care about, remotely... but cool.

Curious if the 2.0 ecoboost gets better mileage than his manual Crosstrek. He didn't even comment on that, other than to say the hybrid is definitely "better" - but that's not what he's driving.

He likely didn't cover it because it's a cheap truck with bottom of the barrel parts. He hinted that he was not at all impressed with the 8 speed transmission in the EB, and would have rather have an AWD Hybrid or a manual. He has plenty of videos where his engineering background is far more pronounced.
I'm with him on the transmission and the knob control. Biggest problem is the coders who worked on the transmission must not know how to drive. What a mess. I spend all my time in sport mode now rather than lug the engine all day.

It was fun to watch but if I wasn't already a Maverick owner, nothing he said would have inspired me to buy one. He's definitely on point about the knob shifter, though. It's my first one too, and I've lost track of the number of times I've turned it the wrong way...or, worse yet, turned the fan control knob instead (I'm used to having the shifter on the dash, from driving my Nissan and my Promaster work truck).

I guess to satisfy the pedants here he is going to have to start a channel called "Introducing my new pickup without the unnecessary engineering details apparently needed in order to satisfy people who take the name of my channel as literally the only I can ever talk about".

I don't know about you, but if I follow someone on YT for the content their channel is known for, I'm not looking for weekly updates into their personal life. Maverick... Crosstrek... irrelevant. And yes, some "influencers" have done just that - start a new channel to share new content that is off topic from their other channel. And they do well doing it too.

But sure, I'll be a "pedant" for liking my content relevant and less social media status related.

I sold my 7 yr old Forester to get the hybrid lariat. Had a crosstrek before the forester, but it was a little small for me. All wheel drive is by far the safest out there and Subaru has that down.

Agreed. I had a Crosstrek before my Escape Hybrid and I should have just kept it. That Escape was a nightmare. All the worst things about these recalls you can imagine. I'm certain if I'd kept it that one of these "updates" would have bricked it. But Subaru is a very bland vehicle now days. Plus, the amount of gloss black plastic that plagues every vehicle in their lineup is insane! But, AWD - Subaru get's it done, no questions there.

Except the entire thing was an infomercial for Ford and Continental. A brother's gotta get paid but for someone who built their reputation on deep dives, that was an obvious cash grab.

Sort of just repeated all the aspect of the Maverick FORD said when the Maverick was announced, and its intro videos Ford made.

The TRUCK that nobody KNEW they needed, but once they have one, can't understand HOW they LIVED without it !

=========

Can't wait to see what the 2025 refresh will bring to the market.
Word is ... Sync4 ... but have heard nothing else.

Maybe the Hybrid AWD ... from the Lincoln Corsair ... which tows 3,000 pounds.
Maybe the "bed-to-cab" pass-thru ... the 'mid gate'

https://fordauthority.com/2024/05/patent-filing-suggests-ford-maverick-could-get-midgate/

Yeah trying to get the 8-Speed to apply the right gear when power is needed is hard- Probably time to Forscan my F4X/4K Tow.

How hard can it be to add shift up/down buttons and a display that shows the current gear?

Yeah I was happy at first with the tranny after our highlander but now it's just annoying when I ask for power with a downshift and it's just wondering how to make that happen.

The trans is the one big thing I can not bring myself to trust. Mine has always shifted hard at slow speeds in low gear, especially when it's cold out. And it does not like to up shift when coasting.
