I don't see how one can compare the Maverick hybrid to their off-road Tacoma. They're not comparable vehicles. 'While I appreciate the post, I think the video is downright silly. Compare that Tacoma to the Maverick Tremor and you might have a video worth my time.

Well they get in the backseat of the Mav and then the backseat of the Taco and ask why the bigger truck is smaller on the inside. People who dismiss the Mav don't understand this and might come into a video like that expecting the Taco to be better in every way when the video shows it only really being better in one way.

As a previous Tacoma owner... Never again. Especially for the prices they want now days. You are not buying a quality vehicle anymore. It's the same quality as a FORD, or RAM, or GM etc etc. I'd have to argue that Hondas are one of the few brands actually providing quality for what you pay now days, for the most part unless you start comparing to ze German automobiles lol. Especially in the interior category. That said. I wouldn't buy a Ridgeline. Not even on my radar.

Also, when I bought my Tacoma in mid '21, it was $38k OTD. That same model in 2023 is now $50k. That is INSANE. Exact same model. And the 2024 is even more. People were posting on the Tacoma forums when I got mine that they paid on average $2-3k less for the same models in 2020 and before. What are you actually paying for now days that justifies the increase? The answer is nothing. Literally nothing. So why do it if you don't actually need it?

An on frame truck compared to the Maverick is totally different. I'm impressed they squeezed out 24MPG from it, but the cost offsets that crap anyways so what's the point there. Also the compromise you make to get that 24MPG in and on frame truck especially a mid sized one make it totally pointless to own now days, thanks to the Maverick. You are essentially just getting a slightly bigger vehicle and NOT in the interior by any noticeable measurements.

Mid size trucks are just glorified full size trucks now days, for the most part. They cost as much as full sizes did 5 years ago and they are just as big now. Park that Tacoma next to a 2000s full size truck and you'll see it.

Towing is one argument, but only just. With 4k in the Maverick, the towing capacity of the Tacoma is not really much to brag about and it's also model depending. Tbh, I didn't watch the video as I hate those channels and their "reviews" but I'm willing to bet that isn't the top towing capacity model they are testing either, and that's why the MPG is higher rated. So again, that's really the only argument to get a mid size truck anymore. Correct me if I'm wrong there.

The only real argument is actual off roading, which very few people do. That means you need the ground clearance and 4WD. I'd say that category is a no brainer, even compared to a Tremor, the off road based applications of a mid sized truck are far better than the Maverick. But again, use depending. I'd wager that 90% of mid size or even full size truck owners that buy them for their off road capabilities would do just fine in a Maverick Tremor. But then... How would they show you how big their pp is unless they actually whipped it out. Boom goes the dynamite.

I got a nicely equipped 4x4 2023 F-150 with the 3.5 ecoboost for $50k that gets 21 around town and 23 on the highway. My brother has a 24 Taco and I know they’re good trucks but they’re overpriced.

Compare the taco to an F-150? Toyota is punching up above its weight class with that MSRP and it doesn’t win.

Compare the taco to a Maverick? Toyota should handily win but it doesn’t. It does win but not by much.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that model Tacoma they sell in 2wd as well. So I believe it was comparing trucks if similar 2wd vs 2wd, hybrid vs hybrid. Not saying the one that was in the video was or wasn't 4wd but trying to do a comparison and also disproving a lot of individuals that doesn't agree or say comments that the Maverick is not a truck.

Which I might add the Maverick is a truck. It just comes with a better ride, more leg and head room, more payload or compatible payload and better mileage than many mid size trucks. It also if equipped correctly can tow a very reasonable amount but sadly most likely have a lower tow rating than most mid size truck max towing capabilities. Though the max towing on the Ford Maverick is more than enough for myself and many others.

For a daily driver the Ford Maverick is hard to beat. It maybe why they are selling so well. Besides being one of the lowest price it has all the attributes I mentioned above that contributes to it's sales success. Even when many dealerships are price gouging, the truck is still flying off dealer lots.

I do agree to your post if you are trying to compare the Tacoma PRO 4wd to Ford Maverick in off road it should have been the Tremor package instead of the hybrid. I just don't think off road was the comparison but whether it's a truck, or truck worthy comparing interior room, payload, HP, torque, towing etc. to the Tacoma. The reason I don't think that was the reason I don't remember them comparing ground clearance, approach angles, crest angle and departure angles. If they did they didn't make a big deal over these because they were not trying to delve into off roading but more daily driver and most uses of a 2wd truck. Just my opinion, I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first or last, that's for sure.

I'd wanted a truck for a long time but just made do. Maverick is literally the only truck besides an old (small) Ranger I would have wanted since I bought a house and need to do "home owner" things...

Maverick is literally perfect for most "truck needs". Most other stuff is overkill.

have not watched the video yet, but yeah the back seat is a big deal to me and it bugs me the mid sizers are not better..... on the flip side the back seat being decent size was a big selling point for me with the Maverick

Thanks for your insights and comments.
The comparison is clearly between the Maverick hybrid and an off road capable Tacoma. (See my screenshot of the title screen). I did not go deep into the video, so perhaps a different title screen is needed to target more of what the video was trying to accomplish, but why should I have to do the work trying to figure out the video maker's point?
As a happy owner of a Maverick, I need no reminder of how the truck meets many of my needs and exceeds my expectations in several categories you mentioned. Preachin' to the choir. I'm sure the Tacoma fans have reasons for their affinity, but as another member mentioned, the mid-sized trucks are now just as big as the earlier full-size ones.

I agree that you know the significance of virtues of the Ford Maverick especially if you've own one. Unfortunately without owning or even looking at the Maverick which is hard with many dealerships having few to none. I say great video and trying to let others know who doesn't own one, how well it stacks up to a midsize truck. I see that they just used the Toyota as a comparison because they mentioned in the video they had previously purchased it. So they had it there or available to compare trucks but not the off road capabilities.
