I just got an unsolicited email from "CarFax" to alert me there are 4 open recalls on my vehicle, and that my vehicle is at Xx,xxx miles and is 1 month from needing an oil change and 1 month from needing a tire rotation.

All true.

I've not been to a dealer or any service center since recently. The miles WERE my actual miles as of yesterday.

Looks like CarFax and Ford are "sharing" your data.

I was watching a report about car companies selling your data to data brokers, it could be ford directly selling to carfax or they getting it by a 3rd party (data brokers).

With todays cars there's no such a thing as privacy. Not that I'm on favor by any means, Is that we had become a living data to be xploid by whoever willing to pay to find out our life.

Carfax would likely be the first company to send you a quote after an apocalyptic. Think about it, a running car/ truck would be the most valuable item after a EMP event takes its toll.

Recall data is compiled by NHTSA. Any insurance agent can find out on their computer a lot of information about your specific vehicle just by the VIN. If anyone thinks this is something nefarious by Ford only you would be sadly mistaken. If anybody is bothered by this you best disconnect from society and live off the grid.

If you dig through the infotainment menu, there are a few different privacy settings. Most concerned about privacy just pull BCM fuse 11 and avoid FordPass.

It's likely your dealership that is using CarFax. I get reports all the time and the mileage is close but not spot on. They are estimating how far you've driven since your last service. Your dealership also enters when you've completed recalls etc. Ford, Valvoline and lots of other service centers will send your info to CarFax, which in my opinion is a great way to show the service record if you want to sell it or trade it in later. I don't think (could be very wrong) that your truck is sending data to CarFax directly.

That's what I did. Only takes a minute and disconnects the modem that connects to Ford via AT&T cellular.

The fuse 11 HHH is referring to is in the fusebox behind the big plastic panel in the front passenger floorboard, above the carpet. Pull the panel toward you to open.

Doing this does not cause any warning pop-ups on your vehicle screens.

If, after doing this, Carfax still sends you info you'd rather not have them knowing, it's possible a business where you've taken the truck for some sort of service (Dealer, oil change place, tire/wheel store, etc.) is sharing/selling your data to 3rd parties.

I understand the desire to "disconnect" and keep your data private. However, Ford is able to use that system to see any and all Check Engine Light codes that have popped up over time, even if it's not there anymore. This can be helpful in diagnosing issues you're having that conveniently don't show up when the dealer takes it for a test drive to replicate errors.

Years ago (90s) I was getting customers complaining that we were selling there info right after they purchased a new vehicle from us. Wasn't us; we didn't even know how to do that back then. And who WAS selling the customer's info? New York State Department of Transportation.

Several threads on this. Your vin # can be accessed by many people. Manufacturers report some info regularly to various paid for it or required to be delivered parties.. Recently one reported that his insurance on his maverick went up significantly and when he asked for reason, his insurance co furnished a 260 page report of the driving history of his truck. Implication is that if you do not have a good report the insurance company may up your premium which also could happen if you prevent truck from reporting data the insurance may just assume you did so to hide something. Other implication is that if you have NOT HAD SAFETY RECALLS PERFORMED you may be penalized and possibly a claim denied?
