This is not Sync 4. This is the new Ford Digital Experience. Ford announced they are ditching Sync and moving to Android Automotive. See more here: https://9to5google.com/2024/01/22/ford-android-automotive-2024-gallery/

Here's Android Automotive - looks like the spy shot.

Even less chance for compatibility then! Thanks for the link!

If they are truly bringing that to the Maverick then it will be getting an all digital gauge cluster in 2025 - depending on what models they are offering I guess it might peak my interest to place an order. Let's see what pricing is.

Yep in the old days you could upgrade from Sync 2 to Sync 3 by changing out APIM and screen. Who knows, may still be able to do it.

lidar(?) in the rear bumper? Autoline once talked about the first kia's with somewhat autonomous features where it was easiest to incorporate the new devices into the corner and bumpers. The result was ANY minor fender bender resulted in $30k of repair bills. Today even front windshield replacement of some cars requires elaborate forward camera realignment certification for liability reasons. As the article points out some devices may be testing for other models, but still price hikes and scrapping instead or costly repairs are concerning.

Ford Connected Audio in the non-B&O Mavericks is not really Sync2. It's Ford's own development, that some people have called Sync 2.5 but it really is a completely different system.

However, you definitely can install a Sync3 APIM in a truck with Ford Connected Audio and easily configure it with Forscan.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I prefer the smaller screen & cubby....perfect spot to stow my wallet while driving. And I don't get the screen envy...why is bigger better? Maybe in the case of displaying maps, a bigger screen might be advantageous, but for what is typically displayed on the Mav screen, I can see everything just fine, and I have bad eye sight! 🤠

Right. I was referring to the really old days! My son's 2013 Escape has Sync 2 but is easily upgraded to Sync 3. Should have clarified I wasn't referring to Maverick in particular.

I think it's unlikely they remove the physical controls, at least at this point, especially with a landscape screen.
If you go to the Ford page on the new system, looks like they have removed most control knobs on the vehicle there ('24 Nautilus) with a landscape screen. Looks like Sync 4A on the Lightning which has one big knob that has multiple use (volume, temp, seat heat, etc.)

The screen size in the Mav is pretty small, especially for a lariat trim, and the cubby is useless. The whole layout is a compromise because of supply chain constraints, it was always supposed to have the larger screen since the beginning.

The Sync has always seemed, well, 'clunky' in comparison to other infotainment screens. The Android Automotive looks much more 21st century to me, and I'd like to see it in my trucklet soon.

I know a few folks who test-drive for Roush Engineering and a few other clients. They hate it when they see someone snapping photos of them and are careful to mask their faces as much as is safe: they tell me that, if they're recognized driving a camo vehicle and it's published anywhere online, they're fired.
I doubt they would be fired for driving a car as required by their job. No one cares who's driving it.

30k repairs on a 40-50k truck, yep that'll happen. nevermind that the ACC radar on current Mavericks is $500 retail. yep, 30k, you got that right!

also, you're fired for being photographed operating a vehicle on public roads! :ROFLMAO:

That screen seems to be the exact same one that's in the 2024 Escape which is running Sync 4. Seeing as they share the same platform I think that's more likely then rolling out Android Automotive on a budget truck.

In the Escape I think all HVAC controls are capacitive buttons on the strip below the screen, not actually "on-screen" buttons. That means they're always there even when running something like Carplay. Not as bad as I thought.

edit: I was wrong, the buttons are part of the infotainment system but they do stay on the screen at all time. Changing HVAC controls bring up an overlay over the screen.

I wouldn't be too surprised: look at all the work they put into masking the car...
A recruiter contacted me about driving camo cars for them a few days ago, but they have only two shifts: 5am to 1:30pm, and 5pm to 1:30am. Neither one is attractive to me, even though I'd love to drive what's under development in the automotive sector. (also, I'm reminded by the spouse that I'm supposed to be retired from full-time work!)
