To be honest I don't have that answer until I crawl under the truck and see what's there or not there. :)
I know the pinch welds are secure. I just could see other secure location for jacking when needed because the plastic shield plate denies me a look unless of course I remove the 15 or so t screws..

If you do some area that are flat and secure to lift the engine with the jack, let me know. Thank you

I bought one of these, since my floor jack has a large diameter pad. While the slots are wide enough to go over the metal and plastic, the rubber is too soft, and allows the pinch weld area to rest on the perimeter of the jack pad. I'm just going to rout a 1/2" wide slot on a short hunk of 2x4, and use that.

I had similar issue. I did use a piece of compressed piece of wood that that was a bit larger then 2x4 like those found on crates that hold cargo.

I cut a slit in it to place over pinch weld. Fit was good but started cracking. Probably because
either, it was different layers of wood compressed, or I cut the slit with the grain.

My jack puck 2.5 inches wide which that doesn't have but a 1.5 of a flat surface
Is this overconcern? Most of my vehicles have been uni-bodies. I've worked on other peoples cars for over 40 years. Only one pinch weld was damaged during the lift and it was a result of severe rust, not the jack/weld.
What are we trying to protect?
My jack stands, about 30 years old, are flat on top and about 2" wide, which the slot on the rubber pads today that are sold are not wide enough to cover the top of the jack stands, which would then go on the pinch weld.

I am trying to find things in dumpsters around warehouses, few blocks away and cut a groove in it and put on top of my jack stand and just know the weight of the truck will hold the adapted piece in place. One thing was a piece of solid fibergerlass about 1" thick. I worked on the truck for 1 lift and second attempt, it cracked.

Other option is to buy new jack stands and hydraulic, which is not something I desire to do.
So far I get a grade of "A" for attempts and "C" for workability. I do enjoy my efforts which eventually will lead to success. Maybe!

DIY it! A few years back I bought a box of hockey pucks. Cut a grove in them, done.

For a deeper groove, glue & bolt two together.

Are these jack pads shallow enough to lift from the bottom of the pinch weld? I always thought they just aided in location.
NJBob, the jack pad on the factory jack tells the tale, these pinch welds are designed to lift on the pinch and not on the surrounding. In addition to the arrowhead molded into the plastic indicating the lift point, the pinch weld itself is visibly thicker and has two V's, one on each side of the. thickened area to also help locate the right spot.

As far as lifting from underneath I,have several times using the Harbor Freight spreader on my floor jack lifting at the a-arm attachment points. Works perfectly and is the only legit way I see to do it with no damage.

Hope that helps

I never used a jack pad always lifted at the pinch weld. Never had an issue. Have a 50 yo sears jack and a newer harbor frieght one.Thank you.

That's a pre 2021 recall. Good info for anyone with some old stands that wants to make sure, but not for those shopping for new.

Any vehicle support can fail, including ramps, and any vehicle support can be used incorrectly as well. When I put the truck up on four stands, such as for tire rotation or brake service, I also leave a floor jack under each side, just touching not bearing weight, to serve as a backup. Some folks will use an old wheel and tire, etc.

I do the same as well, I am talking about the depth of the pad or socket on the factory jack indicating this vehicle is lifted on the pinch weld - not all vehicles are designed that way.

Find a friend who plays hockey. I got a free puck from them, hack saw for a small grove if you want. Holds up much better then any rubber option on amazon.
They are super cheap at Academy Sports too. I think maybe $2 each.

Thank you for reponding. I been eyeballing that spot you have jack under. , thought it maybe a bit lopsided to secure a flat position of the jack or jack stand on, but all well for you.

btw what is the red object in the lower right corer?
Not a problem for stability as there is a bolt head there that sits down in the jack cup.

That comment on the red thing had me scratching my head and then laughing. It is the bottom of my jackstand. You can see the rest of it around the mudflap.
