Can't say anything about a 22 model. Mine is a '23 also. Like I said, my test was very unscientific. Perhaps the key stays active when it is in range of the vehicle? I don't have any way to test otherwise.
Perhaps the key fob does not go to sleep, if and when within range of the vehicle. I seem to recall, that the vehicle's system does not go to sleep for about 30 minutes, even after the vehicle locked. You are correct, our tests were flawed.

For precise testing, more/less, we'd need a tester like this one below:

...If a thief was able to remote start an Eco boost Maverick XL or XLT you would need the actual key to insert it in the steering column to unlock the brake and shift into drive.
I added Start-X remote fob start on my Hybrid XL. After starting, a notification on the instrument cluster tells you to insert the metal key in the ignition in order to shift out of Park and drive the truck. IMO, Key Start is probably more secure than push-button start.

This sort of stuff is incredibly sensationalist. If a car has a chip key, there is no way to steal the car without YOUR KEYS (or towing the whole vehicle). I’ve heard of people with newer cars getting stolen… every single time it’s either because their purse/backpack with keys in it was stolen, or because they left the car running with the keys in it…

There has never been any example of cars being stolen when equipped with modern chip key (aka immobilizer) and the keys were not present. Unless like I said the car was towed

Now, breaking into a car is a different story, that could be theoretically spoofed if the keys were within range and certain radio frequency replay devices were used. That hasn’t changed with chip/immobilizer keys. Or I’ve heard of CAN Bus hacks that plug into an externally available plug, like for example thieves break the headlight out, plug in to a connector, overload the CAN Bus and are able to unlock doors. But not start the car and definitely not drive it away

Agreed. There is only so much a person can do. I do what I can, and then enjoy my life.

The car thief with FOB relay like to have a few words with you:

Yes, some cars are towed away, but by far the FOB relay method far outpace towing...

Looks like some RAM trucks are vulnerable to certain kinds of relay/replay attacks, if the keys are within range (like less than 10 ft away). You can see in the video the thieves are at the front door and garage door trying to get the key to respond and capture.

Yet another reason to not buy any Ram/Chrysler/Fiat/Jeep products

Unlikely the thieves were able to get very far since the key must continually be present for the vehicle to operate, though every brand would have a different way that is treated. Also obviously the keys still have to be present for anything to be possible in the first place. It just so happens if you leave your keys within a few feet of an accessible area then many more things are possible

You're sadly mistaken, all key FOB work on the same way, be that in the US, Canada, EU, etc., for most if not all car companies. Principally, both the proximity antenna and the proximity sensor in the FOB have relatively short ranges. Most of the times the range is anywhere from 3 - 10 feet. The FOB relay device amplifies the signal from the proximity antenna 5 - 10 times, that wakes up the FOB. The FOB sends an encrypted authentication signal to the car, that relayed by the FOB relay, and authenticates the FOB. From there the FOB relay does not need the actual FOB, he/she can unlock/start the vehicle. The exception is the Maverick XL, XLS and other vehicles that require physical key to be inserted into the ignition switch, at least AFAIK....

Watch the video again, there's no need for the actual key FOB to take off....

You’re oversimplifying it. The technology is not that simple. Otherwise this would be rampant.

It is that simple, weather you believe it or not. At this point, I quit...

If you google 'CTV news for auto thefts in Canada there are probably 100s if responses. In Toronto alone there were more than a 1000 vehicle thefts in January alone. As the previous video shows, Another home security video show a vehicle stopping, 2 people getting out, one heading to the front of the house and the other to the target Ram. Had the Ram started and driving down the road in 45 secs.
These are major Auto Theft Companies getting vehicles for overseas markets. Shipped out in containers from shipping ports in Montreal and Halifax. In one article these people have scouts to find areas, addresses with target vehicles. A night or two later the actual thieves come out, collect there targets and gone. The scouts get $200 for each and the drivers apparently $2 - 3000.
Personally I'm not too worried about the Maverick, they are targeting high end vehicles, Rams, F150s, and high end SUVs, Lexus etc.

I've never had a car worth stealing...but I think maybe I do now. All we can do is make it harder to steal than the car in next space over.

Newsflash: it only takes a few seconds to pick a door lock, people can get into your house and steal your stuff....
Reading these responses would now actually get one worried about losing your vehicle, but I’m gonna go with the Tom Petty lyric where he says “most of the things you worry about never happen anyway”. If someone does it, that’s why I buy it Good car insurance.
