Those blanks are not for fog lights, but for tow hooks in the fx4 package.
Thank you for the update. Hopefully Ford will allow for them in the near future or continue to watch for a viable aftermarket unit.

I think the Maverick is a revitalization of the long-forgotten class of compact pickups, rather than competition for the current class of midsize pickups. Think of the 2011 and below Rangers, first-gen Tacomas, and first-gen Colorados. Yes, they have 5' and 6' beds like current midsize trucks, but they also had smaller cabs and overall footprints.
I sincerely hope Ford offers the ext cab Maverick in the future. The length added to the bed is a win-win for me. I have a hard time classifying the current Maverick as Compact truck as most of the original ones had 6' and even 7' bed models(Dakota, Ranger & S-10/S-15). Adding in a low dropped tailgate height really makes use of the bed in the best way. Loading a motorcycle would be a cinch as would lumber with little if any hanging out w/ the gate down.

I really don't think that's going to happen. For one, the cab of the truck is part of the unibody structure. Making the bed longer and the cab shorter would make it more prone to twisting. For two, it wouldn't gain any new buyers. The whole point of the Maverick was to offer an affordable family car as competition to the small sedan class of cars. People that would have considered the Focus are now considering the Maverick. People that need a longer bed already have tons of choices from Ford and from everyone else, although admittedly not at a reasonable price point.

My hopes as well. The bed is the one thing that defines what a pick up is. Making it smaller so you can cram more bodies in the cab is probably a good sales move as far as attracting "non-traditional" pick up buyers, but what about truck buyers that want to use it as a pickup? I will probably pass on the Maverick as it is since the rear seats will just remind me of how much room I'm missing where it really counts. Its a shame because I think Its perfect otherwise...except for that horrible brown Lariat interior.

I hear there is something even smaller in the works at Ford, possible more of a Courier size offering.

I thought there were ext cab prototypes pictured on the forum. As far as choices w/ longer beds in the compact truck class, what are they? As I worked in experimental automotive engineering before retirement, I don't see a issue in shuffling bed and cab sizes. The unitized construction lends itself to design changes like this.

I said there are tons of choices for longer beds. I didn't specify that they were in the compact truck class.

I was a bit surprised to find out that Sync3 was not available until you checked the box for the Luxury Package on the Lariat. What runs that 8" touchscreen on everything else? It looks like Sync3 but it is not listed at all. Sync3Lite?

I was hoping for proximity key access and push button start without having to go to the Lariat Luxury package. XLT Luxury suits my needs otherwise for $4k less. The folks that have seen them in person speak very highly of the XLT "unique cloth" interior, even favor it above the brown vinyl in the Lariat. I saw the brown in a Cactus Grey Bronco Sport and was highly impressed with the entire package, which eases the unknown of the Maverick since it is on the same platform. I'm hoping for upper 20's MPG on the 2.0 FX4.
My Ranger is an XL with the STX package without both of those niceties. I thought I would be fine without them as, hey it's just a truck. The proximity access hasn't caused me a problem. The problem comes in when approx. 80% of the time I put the FOB back in my pocket, get in the truck, and go to push the dang start button. Second problem, you would think that after 6 months of ownership I would be over that hurdle. But, noooooooo, I did it again today. :ROFLMAO:

Here’s one I just noticed: no navigation on any trim or package. Its really nice to have the map up and running even when you’re not necessarily using it to navigate somewhere specific. Countless times a road has been blocked, or I get off a major route due to traffic, and with the map on I can easily see alternate routes without asking my phone where to go. I’ll get used to it, and I know everyone does the phone thing, but seems like a real miss.

The Name. I am old enough to remember a cheap old car from the 70s that were mostly crushed out by 1990. They should've called it a Ranchero.

Nope. They got the name right. The Ranchero was a 2 seater, not an economy family car with good gas mileage.

same here. It's just a no brainer as the old Rancheros were the original Unibody small "pick up trucks". I had a 1964 Ranchero around 1980 and a 1973 in maybe 1994. Both with V-8s. Maybe Ford deliberately ignored the history and lineage because the focus was on new buyers to Ford vehicles and not nostalgia for us old timers. I'm wondering if they do have something in mind for the Ranchero name if the Maverick is a hit? They have been cross branding SUVs under the Lincoln name and used to have Mercury branded versions of Explorer. Maybe the 1st full BEV mini truck will get the Ranchero name...

What most people have forgotten, is that in its first year the Maverick sold more cars than any car in Ford's history, including the first year Mustang. It was a basic, inexpensive car when low priced imports were starting to gain market share. For Ford, it was a huge success... I hope this new pickup can do the same!

A Maverick story.....
I was informed an elderly friend of my wife had an “old Ford” she wanted to sell due to her age- 92. Sweetheart of a lady and she loved her 1971 red with white vinyl top Maverick two door. I had hopes for a Mustang but no.... it wasn’t meant to be. I bought it, told her I was going to clean it up and offer it for sale and any profit I would split with her. She smiled and was excited and sad at the same time.

Oil change then tuned the six cylinder, buffed and polished that red paint and scrubbed the white vinyl till it hurt my eyes to look at. Turned out to be a sharp looking eye catcher! It’s just a MAVERICK I thought till I rolled into the sales area at a Good Guys car show..... people of all ages followed me in and the car was a hit all day long. Reason, nearly everyone that shared stories with me said “ Mom had one when I was a kid, or grandma gave me her Maverick when she got another ride, I had one in high school, my sister bought one new“. I was knocked over and it turned into a sales hit....... as I sold it that morning! Clearly the little Maverick struck a nerve as folks related to it on a number of personal levels.....I was happy to give her some cash back and she delighted in the popularity of her little Ford.

Lesson learned. I didn’t pay much attention to them when I was in high school as they rolled onto the scene. Not a Mustang or Camaro, or Super Bee, or a pickup, so it was just another Ford to me. A sales hit then and a nice memory for so many that March 2010 day. It was dead stock and brightly colored so that helped to draw the crowd. I still smile at the pictures I have of the car and the gem of a lady the Ford’s original owner. Perhaps the renewal of this Ford product named Maverick is witness to this type of response. We will all find out soon I hope.

Thanks -
Be well ✔🇺🇸
