Agreed. I like having functional cubbies, but this looks like an afterthought.
Looks like a designer tried to recover from a mistake or a last-minute substitution and tried to pass it off as additional storage. Looks unfinished and amateur.
I think they were originally going with a larger screen...but cost and chip supply altered that...
Look for a larger screen when the refresh (or a King Ranch / MicroRaptor version) hits the market.

I disagree, price really has nothing to do with it. If it did then the Frontier, Colorado & Canyon also are not in the same class as the Maverick as their base price is much more than the Maverick also.
I think the Maverick is a revitalization of the long-forgotten class of compact pickups, rather than competition for the current class of midsize pickups. Think of the 2011 and below Rangers, first-gen Tacomas, and first-gen Colorados. Yes, they have 5' and 6' beds like current midsize trucks, but they also had smaller cabs and overall footprints.

Don't forget the base hybrid comes standard with a hybrid engine. 40mpg. This sets it completely apart from any other small or midsize pickup. Then to offer it in the low $20k range? You'd be hard pressed to even find a small hybrid car in that price range! Will the small hybrid pickup be for everyone? No. But for quite a few there's nothing like it in the market.
I agree. The Maverick's starting price is $4,500 cheaper than a Prius' starting price. With the marketing media published so far, it appears that Ford's strategy with this vehicle is to entice younger owners of sedans and small SUVs, who may not have considered a truck due to price/mpg/tech (or lack thereof), to step into the world of trucks.

For perspective, a Toyota Camry LE Hybrid gets 51mpg compared to the Maverick FWD hybrid's estimated 37mpg combined. If you drive 25,000 miles a year and gas is $4 a gallon, the Maverick will cost barely over $800 more per year in gas.

Not to mention, the Camry and the Prius aren't rated to tow at all, and you're not going to be able to carry a washing machine or a recliner safely with either.

Someone may have mentioned this already, I didn't read all the posts - the back seat has too wide a profile when folded up to the seatback - less area to carry larger items. Does it lock in place against the seatback anyway??? I actually would have preferred a minimal low profile rear seat that would lock upright against the seatback with a clear floor area - no cubbies.

For me, choosing equipment (in this case, a truck) comes down to two questions:
  1. How often?
  2. How far?
If you're moving appliances and other bulky items frequently, you probably want a bigger truck to save time. For the occasional move, my choices in order would be:
  1. Rent/borrow/buy a trailer. I don't care how low the Maverick's bed height is; it isn't lower than a trailer, and the ramp door or ramp gate make pushing an appliance dolly a lot easier than into a truck bed.
  2. Drive with the tailgate down. Standard washing machines and dryers are 27" wide. If the bed is truly 4.5' long, that's 54 inches, or exactly the length of a standard washing machine and dryer side-by-side. They might fit with the tailgate closed, but you won't have space for moving blankets or furniture pads, so you might get rub damage on the appliances.
  3. Make two trips with the tailgate up. For some, driving around every day with an extra 1' of bed is more inconveniencing than an occasional double-trip to accomplish a task.
Agree with all the above, but one word of caution when moving appliances and/or furniture.
That is, many small utility trailers will beat the hell out of fragile cargo. I've seen appliances internally destructed due to the shock of bouncing in a lightweight trailer. A U-Haul rental has enough mass to ride well, but the truck bed is usually the smoothest by far. So, given the choice, for appliances, I would probably make two trips if necessary.

my personal rule is to not buy a Ford before at least the first MMC (Minor Model Change; AKA mid-cycle refresh).
Good rule. Maybe not only for Ford.

I used to work in a research and manufacturing company for many years. When we tried to sell 100,000 units of equipment to customers, we would first produce a few hundred units as pilot testing. When I see that Ford has only 20+ Mavericks so far, I knew that Ford would use its knowledge and experience from the first batch of customers like me to replace the pilot testing.

What can I say? I am old enough to write my bucket list, and Maverick is a good box checker.
My first hybrid car? Check.
My first pickup? Check.
A newly developed car in its first year of its first model? Check.

I guess the new colt would be a little naughty, but I also believe my kids and I can have some good days with it.

I have a hard time keeping up with all the posts as well.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but the seats actually fold in both directions. As far as I can tell from the numerous reviews on the Maverick, the bottom seat does not lock up in any way. However, the back of the seat can fold down to provide you a somewhat flat surface to work with, albeit quite a bit higher due to the bottom cushioning.

If I recall, the maximum tailgate capacity is 300 pounds (seems low to me, because two average adults weigh more, and I would hope that the tailgate could support a little tailgating). I don't know how much a washer weighs, but something to consider when loading stuff on the tailgate.
Research needs to be done! I'm pretty sure I saw 500 lbs. (?)

I agree; if you plan on owning or driving the vehicle for a long time, it's generally best to wait until any automaker's MMC before buying. But if you're an early-adopter or just the type to buy a new vehicle every 2-4 years, then buying the newest model right as the preorders open is a good option.

Maverick is a good box checker.

I checked off number 3 with my last car. I broke my own rule and bought the car in the first few months of US sales, but I was glad that I did. They canned the manual transmission option with the MMC, and the main reason I bought that particular car was for the manual. Had they not offered a manual at all, I would've bought a different car entirely.

Although I've driven and worked on several hybrid (HEV) and plug-in (PHEV) models, I never personally owned one, nor a forced-induction (FI) vehicle.

I'm currently holding my breath for:
  • News as to when the 6th-gen Ranger will be released and whether there will be a PHEV, hopefully at at a reasonable price.
  • Whether Ford offers the Maverick as an AWD hybrid.
I owned many 2WD trucks and can get anywhere that I need to with 2WD. I simply use 4WD as a "get myself unstuck" switch. Obviously can't do that with AWD since it's always on, but I'd prefer AWD for 99% of my driving anyway. 4WD isn't much help in the rain, slush, or when pulling onto a plowed road from an unplowed road.

And a final kicker: the last time I went off road, had I either been in 4H or had AWD, I probably wouldn't have gotten stuck. I was cruising on firm sand in 2H, and in a matter of two seconds, I hit a soft spot and buried the rear axle. I shifted to 4H and backed up and out, then cruised over exactly where I got stuck in 2H seconds earlier.

I have an 03 Sport Trac and yes it has a powered rear window. But a heated windshield? No, and I've never even heard of such a thing. What year is your ST?
It was an 08. I hadn't seen a heated windshield before or since. I'm sure it would be expensive if it ever needed replaced but it sure was handy in the winter without a garage to put it in.

It was my favorite vehicle that I've owned and I've owned too many. I removed the roof racks and had the holes welded/painted over, reduced the wheels to what I think were some nice looking 17s along with bigger AT tires

Just want to put these tailgate numbers to bed:

"Locked in the mid-position, the Maverick's tailgate can support a husky 400 pounds."
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2022-ford-maverick-flexbed-versatile-cargo-box/

"The multi-position tailgate can hold 400 pounds in mid-position and 500 lbs when fully open."
https://www.forbes.com/sites/sebast...-rightsized-pickup-for-21490/?sh=72d62ece3cb9

"Tailgate rated for 400 pounds in mid-position"
https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North America/US/product/2022/maverick/pdf/2022-Ford-Maverick-FLEXBED-Graphic.pdf

"The tailgate features tie-down clamps that double as bottle openers, and is rated to hold 500 pounds of friends hanging out and taking a seat."

I like that take on it. I'm 37, so I like the bucket list approach. It's my first pickup truck and my first newly developed car in its first year. I opted for the ecoboost, so it won't be my first hybrid. I never thought I'd buy a first year car from a new model. I've always felt that it was too risky and, frankly, a rich man's game. But Ford came up with something that is truly affordable and meets way more of my needs than anything else in the truly affordable category. With my 2011 Kia Forte at a solid 165,000 miles, it's time to move on.

Fog Lites are a must have in my area during the winter, I am monitoring the Ford site and this wonderful site for updates. The front fascia is slotted for them so fingers crossed they will be optioned as LED’s . Thanks for the input from so many on the fine tuning of the new pickup.
Secondly, how about the dark green colors that Ford has offered in the past.....? It would be great to see the color list grow with a “ Hunter green”.

I believe that Ford has caught the competition flat footed once again! As an old guy it takes me back to the Mustang introduction when I was a kid and already a Ford fan.✔🇺🇸

Those blanks are not for fog lights, but for tow hooks in the fx4 package.
