My '24 Hybrid Lariat is in the build stage currently, but with the recent cold streak in the northeast I'm now curious about defrosting. Since the hybrids start and run primarily on electric, how is the windshield defrosting? I'm guessing using the remote start to allow the defroster to do it's job isn't an option is it? thanks

The defroster comes on with remote start, depending on vehicle settings of course. The truck will run the gas engine as needed to heat and defrost. There is also an electric heater that runs until the gas motor reaches the required temperature.

I’ve been cranking mine with the remote start for the past week and the ice is mostly defrosted and the cabin is relatively warm when I get in.

What is this electric heater you speak of?
I've never felt any warm air coming out of the vents until the ICE gets warmed up.
A Ford technician posted quotes from the Maverick Hybrid's service manual when this topic came up on the Maverick truck Reddit page, there very much is an electric heater. It works until the engine reaches operating temperature.

As for not feeling heat, even electric heater coils take time to warm up.

Of course. But you'd think one would at least feel some heat from the electric resistance heater (If, in fact, one exists), before the temperature gauge shows the ICE has warmed up. I don't.

I was under the impression that below a certain temperature the 2.5L engine in the hybrid stayed running until other systems got up to a predetermined set point.

This is possible, but to use any electric heat, several conditions must be met.

To turn on the boost heater:

A) Engine must be running first
B) Engine coolant must be below 75°C
C) sufficient generating capacity must be available
D) Temperature must be below 12°C
E) Cabin Heat must be set to it's highest setting

The general rule is in sub freezing the engine will start instantly and the engine will warm up normally, and your hybrid will defrost at the same rate in the same manner as any other vehicle.

Well there I go, I don't have the heat turned up to the highest setting because my hand and butt warmers are preset to come on and thus I don't need cabin heat. No cabin heat no fast defrosting. Luckily I have not had to crank up the cabin heat but once last week when the cold outside finally had the water I was tracking in all week condensing on the inside. I just waited a moment.

Why risk running into someone while peeking through that one small clear spot when I can listen to the XM for a bit and drive safely away?

Living in a climate where all those conditions are easily met on most winter mornings, yeah it works. Sometimes when it is well below freezing on short trips the ICE hardly ever gets above the cold start mark on the gauge, yet there is heat. Not as much heat as the ICE can produce through the heater core, but it does work.

When parking the Hybrid, I don't turn it off until the gas engine shuts down in Park. During that time, I'll open the windows to evacuate the warm air and bring in the outside colder, drier air. Much less defrosting is needed on the next startup.

Does anybody else just scrape the windows along with turning on defrost? Luckily not a lot of frost in SC!

same, My truck is an ice box till about 10 miles down the road. meaning my drive to my work is all down hill. I go from 3500 feet to 250 feet in 45 miles. Needles to say My Mav takes forever to heat up. Defrost works though because its the a/c removing moisture across the windshield.
