Not sure if this is the correct thread (apologies) but is it possible to put a rear locker on the Maverick Hybrids? I’m not a huge car person so sorry if this is a dumb question. If you make fun of me, at least make me laugh. Cheers!

Front wheel drive so won't help in the rear.

You might be able to find an aftermarket option, ask your local auto shop if they sell them, preferably in chrome as they look sweet going down the road ;)

The Hybrid is only front wheel drive so there is nothing to lock in the rear. The rear wheels are not powered.

Thanks all. All my other trucks have been RWD. This is what happens when I assume, D’oh! 🤦‍♂️

No need to apologize. I have found out over my 76 years that when I assume something, the assumption is that I assumed something that was the assumption, or at least assumed to be. I know, that's how you put it when you are a retired English teacher.

So your front wheels can be locked, however I wouldnt recommend it. It would be similar to a welded differential or a spool. It would not be selectable so it would be 100% all the time. Which would create alot of tire scrub and ruin your fuel mileage.

A different route for more traction on your hybrid would be electric wheel hub motors. There is some guesswork to be solved but it is something I have wanted to do for muscle cars or fun 90s fwds for a long time. Here is one company offering options.

Yeah I've thought about this for the rear wheels- getting the software management right would be the trickiest part.

It'd probably be "easier" to swap an AWD EcoBoost rear suspension and Escape Hybrid AWD PTU. Still would involve a good amount of fabrication and modification on the driveshaft/half-shafts, most likely. And intelligent AWD power control would be a whole vat-worth of worms, but could be simpler to just enable/disable the RDU clutch on demand (maybe could get fancy and PWM dial it).

Well one other thought is Fords own E-axle kit they put in the MachE. It was offered for a while in Ford Racing. Presumably there would be similar throttle programming on its control systems given that its a Ford product. Still would take a bunch of programming and sorting out. But it sure would be fun to kick in the rear drive and add in another 280 hp. The weight would go up because you would need another battery pack. So call it a 4800lb truck with 475 hp. Still not too bad.
