Obviously I believe you due to your evidence but how does the battery know if something is connected to the battery or at the other end of the negative cable.?
The battery doesn't know where a charger is connected. The BMS knows (or has no idea, depending on where you connect it).

The BMS is connected to the negative post, essentially right on the negative post. If you clip your charger to the actual/literal negative post, essentially "between" the negative post and the BMS, then the current flows directly into the battery without first flowing thru the BMS. This is why the warning that "bypassing" the BMS can confuse the BMS. The BMS will see the battery somehow "magically" gained voltage and be super confused and take a while to accept that fact/that voltage reading.

Now if you play by Ford's rules and connect your negative lead of your charger somewhere on the body of the vehicle, or literally anywhere else that will lead back to the negative battery terminal, all the amperage you are pushing will be detected by the BMS (since the BMS is virtually on top of the negative battery terminal) and it will be happy, since it saw that amperage flow thru and can account for it.

Generically "Control Module improper wake-up performance "

Someone on another forum said "This means the BECM took too long to wake up. A low 12V battery can cause this. "
Paneubert, can you explain "BECM" ?
Thanks.

BECM (Battery Energy Control Module). A microprocessor controlled unit which manages the charging and use of the hybrid battery.

Truck was parked in the garage last night - not heated but certainly not as cold as outside, let's say it was probably just above zero in the garage this morning. '23 XLT Hybrid (no Co Pilot) started fine and I drove up town, about a 10 minute drive. Thermometer on the dash said -14F. Parked the truck for about 45 minutes.

Got back in the truck, turned on the key to start/run. I got some red alert I'd never seen about pedestrian warning. In hindsight I should have taken a picture of the dash. It appeared the truck was on - said it was in electric driving mode. However.......truck would not shift out of Park. Foot on the brake and nothing.

I tried off and on several times, opening the door, lock/unlock and the result was the same.

After about 10 minutes I repeated the process, something clicked, the gas engine came on, and I could shift out of park and drive. A "check engine" light came on and I got a Service Engine Soon warning on my FordPass that says "the engine system has detected a fault".

I tried toggling through the dash settings to see if it would tell me anything but did not find a menu or area than told me any information.

I tried searching the forum when I got home but didn't find anyone who reported a situation like this. I'm guessing is has something to do with the brutal cold but who knows.

Has anyone else had a similar situation?
By golly, there's a record I hope never to approach or see on my truck.

If no alternator then how does the 12 volt battery charge? I thought the hybrid part only charges the hybrid battery
There must be a power converter that takes the high voltage and converts it to 14 volts.

Because I tow mine, it has a battery monitor on it and if I turn the key on, the battery voltage goes up without the engine running.

One last vent/rage/question :
Given the hybrid aspect of these systems - is there a way to just let the engine run & idle so the alternator can give it a charge?

I try keeping it in Park, but it just goes back to hybrid/electric mode
FYI if hybrid is "Ready" and in park just push the go pedal to the floor to immediately start the ice. The ice will keep the HVB charged by turning on at 30% SOC and off at 40% SOC but if you press the pedal it will charge the HVB until it's at least 40%. If you want to have the HVB at 40% before you turn it off this is the way to do it.

Yes. Similar problem. Took short 5 mile drive, stopped 1 hr (-10 degF)and then start but was locked into PARK . Tried restart (key off/on) about 4 times before DRIVE OK.

I've now got a MIL light. Used my OBDII and got code # U3012 but no DTC displayed. (says I need Ford manual to interp code).
Anybody have info on this code?
Thanks.
What is MIL and DTC

I always let my truck run until you hear the rpm

Kinda glad I didn't go with the hybrid for this reason. Too many unknowns as of yet. Currently cold as hell here in Buffalo New York and my 23 2.0L starts every thyme.

My EB started fine (-12F last nite). Car is 2 months old. AWD FX4. I drove 1 mile, parked for 5 min, and she would not start. Starter turned over numerous times, and she finally kicked. Drove 30 feet and died. Got her started again and now the check engine light is on. Took it to a dealer and left it there. Any guesses?

Wind chill is caused by wind blowing over a living thing, not a car. The wind causes the skin to feel colder.
That is so correct. I am amazed that so many people think wind chill affects a car. It has no effect on inanimate objects. Only warm blooded creatures.

I see someone said to check Fordpass. Never knew that. It tells me that the powertrain control module lost communication with the fuel pump control module. All I have to do is reset the Inertia Fuel Shutoff switch. Owner guide should help me with that issue. I think I like having a carburetor better on my old Ford.

-36C past few days. My hybrid mav started fine when it was outside of my GF place. Typically heated garage for it tho.

it is on its second 12v battery and had the charge cable to ground recall etc. before that it was having crazy low power messages regardless of the weather

You guys had me worried! My Mav sat outside foe the last four days and it was 13 below last night. This morning I went out to go to work and it started like it was summer. So, it may be a contributing factor but it's not the cold.
